PARK PICNIC MEETUPS TIPS
1. It will take time for some groups to build, so Rather than showing up and then being disappointed that nobody else is there, drop a comment in your local zone thread so others know youβre local. See who else seems to be frequenting the chats and drop them a DM to see if they will be there. If everyone checks for confirmation before going, hopefully it can save on a wasted trip.
2. Go to the registration poll for your area (check directory for link access). If you cast your vote, aka registration, you will be able to check who else has registered in that area by clicking on βshow resultsβ. You can then click on all the profiles that answered βyesβ and connect with them over private message.
Searchable public groups will be set up soon to connect more locals and better facilitate people staying in touch directly. A plan is also underway to have private groups for vetted individuals who frequent catchups. We are appointing vetted reps to manage these. Stay tuned.

Martin Foley has a message for Vic protesters:
'What we need to see is those ill-advised protests to cease. The best thing that those protesters can do is to go home and organise to get vaccinated.'

They didn't arrest and fine the illegal gathering for the Dee's fans celebrating their win though did they? Did someone say 'superspreader event'?

FACEBOOK ARTICLE BY THE GUARDIAN ON CONCERNS RAISED OVER EXCESSIVE FORCE USED BY VICTORIA POLICE AT PROTESTS LAST WEEK
https://www.facebook.com/theguardianaustralia/videos/1980030195502439/
Victoria police are investigating an incident at Flinders Street Station in Melbourne, after footage emerged showing an officer approaching a man from behind and throwing him to the ground.
Concerns have been raised about Victoria Police's use of force during the protests, including the use of weapons like teargas and stinger grenades.
The civil rights group Liberty Victoria was concerned about the footage.
βItβs deeply concerning. Incidents like that can motivate others in a deleterious way,β spokesperson Michael Stanton said.
βWe donβt say police have an easy job β far from it. Weβve seen some shocking scenes of protesters hurling abuse or worse, weβve seen police getting injured and hospitalised and thatβs terrible, but what you donβt want in that situation is to have a disproportionate use of force that could itself spark further unrest.β
Melbourne Activist Legal Support has been monitoring the protests, and spokesperson Anthony Kelly said it was a takedown technique that had been used before and was potentially excessive.
βItβs good that the police are investigating it and a positive sign, but what we always say with this is that these sort of incidents require [an] independent investigative model to really get to the bottom of it, because they keep happening.β
Premier Daniel Andrews threw his support behind police, despite concerns over the heavy tactics.
