Remnants of a once glorious past..
On the Pakistan-Afghanistan border lie the ruins of once magnificent temple complexes built by the Hindu Shahi dynasty. These were destroyed during an invasion by Mahmud Ghazni in the 11th cen CE.
Today the ruins are called "Kafir" Kot.
Kafir Kot ruins is the collective name of two sets of temple complexes located within 50 kms of each other but with similar landscape. One set is named Bilot Kafirkot and the other Tilot Kafirkot. Both are surrounded by ruins of massive fortifications.

Rukmini Devi Temple in Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gujarat.
Dedicated to Bhagwan Krishna’s beloved queen.
The Temple is said to be more than 2500 years old, but the present temple is said to belong to the 12th century.
This 12th-century remnant carries out some evident architectural marvels of the time through its mural carvings and other structures.

Veerbhadra of Kalinjar (Uttar Pradesh) is one of the main the highlights of the Neelkanth temple. It is a 24 feet rock cut sculpture of Lord Shiva as Veerbhadra, mistakenly identified by many as Kal Bhairava.
It is situated in a small kund/reservoir called swargarohini in a rock cut recess. This sculpture of Veerbhadra is 24 feet in height and stands in water of the kund. The levels of water depend on the weather as the kund has dried up. The sculpture is 17 feet broad.
The figure has 18 arms, and is ornamented with the usual garland of skulls, with snake earrings and snake armlets, and a serpent twined round the neck. in the hands are various objects, of which the most prominent are a sword, a bowl of blood.
With Veerbhadra there is a figure of devi Chamunda, 4 feet in height, which is carved higher up from base.

Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Bharat♥️🇮🇳
One of the largest fort of India and perhaps the only one in that region which have never been breached by any invaders !
Built in 1459 by Rao Jodha Rathore.
It’s wall rises in places to a height of 120 ft and is 70 ft thick !!
Rudyard Kipling called it “the work of giants”.
Mehrangarh means "Fort of the Sun". Sun was the Devata of Rathores as their claimed descent from Suryavamsha.

The gigantic Nandi in couchant posture is a grand cut out sculpture of a huge granite rock. This monolithic sculpture is a unique example of its kind in the country. It faces west and looking towards the monolithic naga linga inside the Veerabhadra temple complex.
It measures 10 meters in length and 6 meters in height. Nandi is ornated with a Necklace, Muvvahara and Ghantahara (Garland of bells) and has short horns.
It is noticable that the head is held aloft a higher angle than usual. Consequently the expression of submission which is typical of Nandi before Shiva, is conspicuous by its absence here. From the standpoint of proper proportion in the formation of various limbs and excellent finish secured in the workmanship, This Nandi is an excellent piece of art of the Vijayanagara period.

To look at, this is one corner of Belur Chennakeshava Temple. Karnataka 🇮🇳
But it holds great details & information.
1. Kundha Sthambha (Lathe Turned pillar) is a monolithic pillar. Imagine the way our ancestors turned this single huge pillar on Lathe Machine (Kundha Yantraka) 900yrs ago.
2. The Kosthaka (Brackets) are of intricately carved magnificent "Madanikas". 3. The "Chadhi" (roof) with "Dharani" (beams) resembling the wooden house eaves & doing as it is on stone is an element of wonder forever.
4. The "Panjara Bhitti" (Lattice walls) on either side of pillar. Sculpting such lattice walls is a herculean task specially to make thick stone walls.

The exquisite sculpted entrance doorway to Sri Vishnu temple of Janjgir Champa in Chattisgarh.
From below are two panels: gaja thara & simha thara. The base of the door shows devotees facing the vined Lotus, which signifies the Universe & ultimate Knowledge .
On either sides of the door are the dwarapalas, while the top lintel or lalatabimba shows the triad- Brahma, Vishnu, & Maheswara. The uppermost panel or the Uttaranga holds the figure of Vishnu at its centre.
