We would like to transparently comment on the recent developments around the Decentralized Nodes (DN) program by Web3 Foundation and outline our next steps as a validator.
We share the view of many operators that the abrupt termination of the DN program came as an unexpected decision. Instead of a continuation or extension, the program was sunset at the very moment when validators were expecting clarity about its future. For operators who had planned their infrastructure and operations around long-term participation, this created significant operational and financial uncertainty.
It is important to emphasize that participation in DN required substantial upfront commitments: enterprise-grade hardware, deployment in hard-to-reach and underrepresented locations, long-term data center contracts, or outright hardware purchases tailored specifically to the programβs requirements. These decisions were made based on trust in the long-term nature of the initiative.
As a result, we would like to inform nominators and the community in advance that in January we plan to wind down part of our infrastructure, including our Polkadot / Kusama validators, in their current operational form.
For this reason, we are also temporarily adjusting our validator commission upward. This action is taken purely as a precautionary and signaling measure and serves several purposes:
β’ to clearly and transparently notify nominators about the upcoming validator shutdown;
β’ to encourage nominators to make timely unstaking and reallocation decisions;
β’ to partially offset already incurred and ongoing infrastructure costs, helping us avoid operating at a direct loss during the wind-down period.
We would like to explicitly state that all commission changes are made strictly within the protocol rules of Polkadot and Kusama and remain fully compliant with network-defined parameters. Validator commission is a public, on-chain setting that is visible in advance and accessible to all participants.
The temporary commission increase is not intended as a means of extracting excess rewards, but rather:
β’ an on-chain signal of a change in validator status,
β’ a transparent notification mechanism for nominators,
β’ and a necessary measure to manage unavoidable infrastructure expenses.
Nominators retain full freedom of choice at all times β to continue nominating or to unstake β with complete visibility into the validatorβs commission on-chain before making any decision.
We would also like to sincerely thank Web3 Foundation for the opportunity to participate in the Decentralized Nodes program and for its continued contributions to the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems. Despite the difficult circumstances, we value the collaboration and the experience gained through this initiative.
We remain committed to the principles of decentralization, resilient infrastructure, and long-term collaboration within the ecosystem, and we hope that future programs will offer more predictable and sustainable engagement models for validators.
Thank you to all nominators and ecosystem participants for your trust and support.
