What is the reason for painting this metal duct red?

The photo shows a black steel duct that can be used in different applications like kitchen hoods.

As this duct will not be insulated, we paint the outer surface of black steel ducts with red oxide coating.

This coating acts as a preparatory or protective coating that prevents rust formation on the ferrous metal surfaces exposed to humidity and air.
