How to write good mains answer ?
1. Understand the question thoroughly.
2. Check the important keywords in the question and fram answer accordingly
3. Write suitable introduction relevant to the question and which reflects your understanding of the question.
4. After introduction write body part of the question.
In body part : you need to write analysis of the question. If there is dand for pro and cons in the question then you need to write both perspective.
5. If you can draw diagram or map then try to incorporate it.
6.after writing both perspective and body part of the question then conclude your answer with positive note. If in question it demands then add your suggestions also.
In polity related questions you can add article numbers, constitutional amendments, any Supreme Court verdict, best practices in global level with respect to governance.
For IR you should know the historical background of Indias relationship with concerned nation.
India's trade, diaspora, diplomatic engagements etc. Don't forget to draw a map.
In environmental related questionsyou can add various laws like WPA 1972, EPA 1986, NGT judgement, UNFCC, IUCN reports etc.
In general if possible try to incorporate facts from various org such as UN, NSO, Govt Agencies, Recognised private agencies, NGO.
