Gs-2 : IR- Bilateral, Regional, and Global Groupings and Agreements involving India and/or affecting India’s interests. Important International Institutions-Kimberly process

Gs-4 : Ethics

⚠️Q) As the Chair of the Kimberley Process in 2026, India has the opportunity to redefine the narrative of ethical trade. Discuss the challenges in the current KPCS and how India can leverage its position to implement reforms.

🅾️The Problem: The current KP scope ignores state-linked abuses, human rights violations in artisanal mining, and environmental harm.

🅾️The Challenge: Decision-making in KP is subject to a political veto, making it hard to identify conflict diamonds when a state is the perpetrator.

🅾️India’s Strategy: Form technical working groups on human rights to build consensus before formal policy changes to avoid "reopening political fights."

Gs-2 : Governance- Sanchar Sathi case study- Trust based governance

🅾️Government intervention has traditionally been about Regulation (imposing rules from the top). However, in the digital age, regulation alone fails because it is opaque. The new paradigm is Trust, which is built when the government empowers the citizen to verify and act. Sanchar Saathi is the perfect example of this shift. It moves the citizen from being a passive subject of regulation to an active partner in governance.

⚜️ Sanchar Saathi, surged to the No. 1 position on the Apple App Store in India overtaking global tech heavyweights like Google Gemini and ChatGPT.Policy experts say the episode reflects a “digital contradiction” for the government where a public outcry over privacy inadvertently helped raise awareness about cybersecurity.😄

Gs-2 : Fundamental Rights- Right to life - Does it include Right to die?

Gs-4 : Ethics and Human Interface; Bioethics (Euthanasia)- Right to life debates- Should Assisted Dying Be Legalised?-

📌The Indian Judiciary has expanded the ambit of Article 21 to include the Right to Die with Dignity, establishing that when medical recovery is impossible, the forced prolongation of life through artificial means constitutes a violation of an individual's privacy and autonomy.

🅾️The discourse is rooted in Article 21 (Right to Life and Personal Liberty). The Supreme Court has interpreted this not merely as "animal existence" but as a life with dignity, privacy, and autonomy. .

🅾️Read about the case laws in the attached image.

📌Quote : Life is not just survival; it is the quality of existence that defines humanity.

Gs-1 : Geography - Great nicobar project

🅾️Background :

Gs-2 : Governance- Treat this as a case study on how this a "deep contradiction" of democratic representation
vs tribal rights.

⚠️Why are we saying this?

⚜️1. No fair price- They are being offered Rs113–180 per sq mt Vs market rate- Rs.11,370 and Rs.20,500.

⚜️2. Why undemocratic?- Nearly 84 sq.km of legally protected tribal reserve is being handed over to the project. The Shompen are almost entirely absent from the discussions, while the Nicobarese are reportedly being pressured to "voluntarily" surrender their ancestral lands.

⚜️3. Procedural and Ethical Violations- Social Impact Assessment doesn't account for the lives and cultures dependent on the sea and forests.
🔰My conclusion- Shompen and Nicobarese's ancestral connection to the forest and their displacement is not just a legal issue, but a violation of the "mother-child" bond-"Mata Bhumih Putroham Prthivyah" (The Earth is my Mother, and I am her child.)- Atharva Veda
Gs-4 : Ethics- Bioethics

🅾️Ethical concerns regarding animal testing vs. human-relevant bioengineered systems.

Gs-3 : Science and technology- Biologics

🔰What?- Unlike chemical drugs (small molecules), biologics are large, complex molecules derived from living cells. Biosimilars are the "generic" versions of these biologics.

🌟BioPharma SHAKTI: A strategic government initiative aimed at boosting domestic production of biologics and encouraging NAMs to make drug discovery faster and more accurate.

🅾️Evaluate the challenges faced by India in becoming a global hub for biologics and biosimilars. How can regulatory adjustments and budgetary support like 'BioPharma SHAKTI' address these hurdles?

⚠️The Northwick Park Tragedy (2006): Use this as a "case study" to argue why animal models (like rhesus monkeys) can fail to predict human immune responses.

🔗Q) Examine the implications of stricter FCRA regulations on civil society functioning in India.

🅾️ National interest vs Freedom of association

Gs-4 : Ethics- Role of Ethics in politics

🅾️The central conflict is between what is effective in the short term and what is right in the long term.

📌Public institutions exist to serve human dignity. If citizens become mere numbers, vote banks, targets, or collateral damage, ethics has failed.

🌟Thinkers

⚜️Aristotle viewed politics as pursuit of the good life.

⚜️Gandhi held that impure means cannot produce pure ends.

⚜️Rawls argued institutions must be fair to the weakest.

⚜️Ambedkar warned that constitutional morality must sustain democracy.

📍Final take away : When power loses its moral compass, authority may survive temporarily, but legitimacy eventually decays. Politics without ethics can command obedience, but it cannot command respect.

Gs-4 : Ethics- Bioethics/environmental ethics

🔰Q) “Is culling of invasive species ethically justified? Discuss.”

📌Background : Pablo Escobar- a drug dealer imported these hippos in colombia- they dont belong there- so they disturbed the ecological balance of that region.

Dilemma : Killing animals is morally wrong irrespective of outcome vs Strongest justification for culling comes from ecocentric ethics- which side should you take?= utilitarian vs deontological conflict

🅾️What would a responsible decision-maker do?- Virtue ethics

⚜️Courage → take difficult decisions
⚜️ Prudence → rely on science
⚜️ Compassion → minimise suffering

⚠️When human-induced ecological imbalance threatens broader biodiversity and human safety, ethical responsibility shifts from preserving individual lives to restoring systemic balance.

📌 “Compassion towards hippos without responsibility can become injustice for environment.

Gs-4 : Ethics- Civil services values

🅾️Values you can focus- Public morality, prejudice, political communication, administrative neutrality.

🅾️A district administration is asked to identify undocumented migrants in a communally sensitive border district. Local political groups are spreading rumours that one religious community is responsible for demographic change. As District Magistrate, what steps will you take?

⚠️What points you can think of?- use the following points

⚜️1. National security vs civil liberties
⚜️2. Border control vs human dignity
⚜️3. Majority anxiety vs minority rights
⚜️4. Political pressure vs administrative neutrality
⚜️5. Evidence-based governance vs prejudice
⚜️6. Due process vs collective suspicion

❇️My stance-Demographic governance must be data-driven, constitutionally sensitive and socially responsible.dont deny demographic change..policy must separate facts from prejudice.
