The hidden costs usually come in the form of lack of ability to generate real world results, emotional instability, constant suffering & self doubt, fear, frustrations towards life and so on...

Truth has been systematically buried down by society that everyone now accepts the costs as normal. But whether you like it or not, you are paying for it with your own peace of mind.

And adherence to truth has no shortcuts. It's to be pursued every moment slowly adding up over time and suddenly your life is experienced at a higher level of quality that the people around you.

I am extremely disturbed to see how people discuss philosophy on twitter.

They have gotten it backwards.

Make sure you don't fall into those traps.

Spirituality, Philosophy, self Improvement, Success, if done correctly will end up in the same destination.

Chronic Stress Kills you.

The stress persisting inside you for a long time or consistently reoccurring stress is called chronic stress.
Constantly being worried about relationship, your shitty job or your life in general which even robs you of your sleep is fatal for you in the long run.

Acute stress on the other hand is short term stress, that you may face with one deadline or in a high stakes zero sum negotiation. High stress, but over short periods of time. This is not so bad, since you quickly rewind & relax soon after. This is a normal part of life, and even healthy since it gives you some degree of alertness towards life.

But chronic stress is a killer.

Be acutely stressed after reading this if you may, but detach yourself from chronic stress asap.

Your heart & body will thank you, literally, with more health.
Knowledge liberates.

"Happiness - as ānanda - can only come from self-knowledge.

Happiness - as sukha - can come from anything ... from career to family.

We are genetically pre-dispositioned to seek the latter.

Hence, the enlightened are few."

"One has no right to love or hate anything if one has not acquired a thorough knowledge of its nature.

Great love springs from great knowledge of the beloved object, and if you know it but little you will be able to love it only a little or not at all."
This article shows some good techniques to handle your motivational drive.

At some point, we have all glorified the excitement we had as a child to different things. But as an adult, having that excitement will take you back in your work. Set aside your excitement for vacations.

A constant High is way better than rugged super highs and super lows.

I never used to celebrate goals scored during football matches because of this reason, people thought I was no fun.

Life is largely filled with boring stuff. Redesign your life that you are intrinsically motivated all the time, instead of relying on cheap dopamine for happiness.

“Meditation is not something that should be done in a particular position at a particular time. It is an awareness and an attitude that must persist throughout the day”

Why integration is necessary?

You will come across many data in your daily life. Needless to say, most are trash. They do not offer you anything, but rather they are something that needs to be dealt with.

An insight is some information that is usually at a high level of abstraction, but super practical & can be applied to be of value in the real world. But the exact application won't be apparent. You need a high level of intuition to catch them by the hook. Spotting pearls among trash is itself a skill.

Even spotting them is fairly easy. But the real pain is integration. You need to embody that insight, usually some condensed information, into your own psyche. Such that, it becomes a natural part of your conduct instead of some abstract knowledge. Insights are effortless, but integration requires discipline & effort. Sit down & carefully think, how can I make this insight into an organ of my body. An irraceable part of my software.

People generally skip the integration part, since it's boring & requires effort. But this is where the good life lies. And ignoring it is wastage of wisdom. Be a master integrator.

Good life is nothing more than a life which has been integrated with Truthfulness.

Wanting to make yourself happy is the wrong frame to begin with. If that's your view of life, then you have already messed up. Because life will always have things that throw you off your "happiness mode" and will land you in perpetual suffering. That is only if you have managed to make yourself happy.

Instead of making yourself happy, make yourself capable of dealing with the sufferings of life. Embrace suffering. This is the correct frame. And counterintuitively, this will actually make you happy.

Happiness is not some "thing"
at all. You can't even tell a "thing" that makes you happy. Whenever you were happy, it's because you were happy because of you own nature. Not because it was caused by someone or something.

Vk has outlined the other extreme, which is common in the macho manly side of twitter. (This isn't a disagreement, since this is something I left out to address. But it's even more important, since it's not emphasised enough in our circles.)

That is to glorify suffering, swinging the pendulum to the other extreme. This is mostly the case with self inflicted suffering, that comes from an avoidance of truth. Avoidance of truth saps the joy out of life till you spiral into eternal misery.

We are not Sufi monks to say that external events do not cause suffering. The reality is that we suffer from undesirable external events and also from self inflicted suffering. The embrace suffering part only applies for external suffering, not for internal suffering, which stems from an avoidance of truth.

Which is why you make finding truth your primary priority in all situations as I have discussed here.

Just to be super clear on this, take the example of a fat dude.
His body literally suffers because it has excessive fat. He feels bad all day from all the excessive sugar consumption.
All of these account for self inflicted suffering. This is the result of the avoidance of truth that, being fat makes you feel trash.

Now if he decides to hit the gym tommorow, he still suffers. He can't run as easily or lift as easily as others. His body cannot work well, and this is external suffering. This is the suffering that you need to embrace. External suffering is something life throws in your face, with you having minimal control over it and you have no choice but to face it head on.

Another eg is that of trad men who are so identified with the "provider role" ie providing for the family that they work their ass to death. The wife & kids will love his company more than a little more extra cash. But he can't understand this because from his pov, something is wrong if he isn't suffering and "working hard" till he gets a heart attack, grinding all day. This is self inflicted suffering coming from an avoidance of truth. This suffering should be rejected.

You must distinguish between self inflicted internal & externally inflicted suffering. Sometimes the distinction may not be so clear.

Only absolute truth can make truly happy.

True happiness comes from Knowledge & Understanding of Truth.

Sculpture "The Weight of Thought" by Belgian artist Thomas Lerooy.

This image says a lot.

The concepts, ideas, views, opinions, explanations, thoughts that we have about reality is not explaining reality itself.

"The map is not the territory."

The map of Antarctica is not Antarctica. Infact the map dosen't even look like it. Have you been to Antarctica? Compare it with it's map too. It doesn't look even slightly similar.

Similarly the ideas we have about reality is not helping us understand reality. The ideas accumulate in our mind that is supposed to guide us like a map are doing the opposite. They are weighing us down. We think too much, thinking that thinking will get us what we look for in vein. Thoughts distort reality and lead us to stress and depression.

An accurate picture of reality is not made up of thoughts and ideas, but first hand perception.
