Tesfaye Urgessa, an Ethiopian artist based in Addis Ababa, explores socio-political themes including race, migration, and the impacts of war and displacement, influenced by political unrest in the artist's home country. Urgessa's works are currently representing Ethiopia at the Venice Biennale in the country's first ever pavilion, where his canvases feature symbols of war such as aircraft and weapons, alongside figures that embody resilience and vulnerability.
In a concurrent show at saatchiyates available to explore on Artsy, the artist's work deftly addresses contemporary issues of identity and domestic tension while referencing his classical training and Ethiopian iconography.

The Shadowless Church, also known as the Sino-French agricultural science and technology park in Chengdu, China, is a striking architectural marvel designed by Shanghai Dachuan Architects!
Inspired by the lavender fields of Provence and Impressionism, the design shows traditional forms in favor of expressing freedom, romance, and diversity through its minimalist structural elements and extensive use of pure, simple aluminum.
The church serves as the centerpiece, envisioned as a beam of light penetrating through the space, while the architecture seamlessly integrates ecological considerations and advanced lighting techniques to create a modern yet spiritually resonant environment!
