Located in the Tebet area, the house stands out with its unique black checkered facade pattern, towering over the surrounding houses.
Originally, the site was occupied by a main family, and the client's request was to design a house that maximizes natural lighting and ventilation while emphasizing space compaction.
To address these issues, the architect applied the split-level concept and reused the demolition of the existing house. The 185m2 building is divided into two parts, connected by an open space in the middle.
The rear mass of the house has a 3-in-1 function, serving as a family room, kitchen, and dining room. The dining room is not adjacent to the clean kitchen, as is typical, but is instead located in an open space with double volume that connects the two building masses.
The placement of the open space in the middle of the building maximizes natural lighting and ventilation, utilizing automatic grilles on the roof that can be opened and closed to channel hot air upward while allowing light to enter the two building masses. Louvers can also provide shade for the rooms below.
The second floor of the rear mass is dedicated to the main bedroom, walk-in closet, bathroom, and workspace, with a mezzanine concept used to create compactivity in these spaces.
On the other hand, the front mass is occupied by the service room and children's room, which occupy three different volumes and levels of space, giving the front facade a soaring impression. There is also an open space on the second floor that can be used for relaxation and is accompanied by some vegetation.
To give the facade a distinctive character, the architect arranged the rooster vertically, forming a checkerboard pattern with three planter boxes finished with a wood texture.
This design reduces the view from the surrounding neighborhood without reducing the window openings since the house is located in a densely populated area. The placement of planter boxes on the facade gives an organic impression of vegetation.
The house uses a two-tone color scheme, with dark gray dominating the main facade to create a masculine impression and easy maintenance against dust and weather.
The interior is dominated by white color and light wood colors, along with wide glass windows that make the house seem more spacious and inviting.
The split-level concept, utilization of natural lighting and ventilation, and unique pattern make this house stand out in the neighborhood.
