10. The slope of the peninsular India is towards the east or little south east. This is why rivers like Godavari and Krishna originating from the Western Ghats, instead of flowing into the nearby the Arabian sea, cover a long distance in the eastern direction and flow into the Bay of Bengal.

Narmada and Tapi are exceptions. They do not flow in the direction of the east but the west and drain into the Arabian sea. It happens because they flow in rift valleys.

Why 1911-21 is known as Great Dividing line or demographic divide? Simply, when we divide something there will be different portions with different features. We divided Indian Demographic history into two as, the period of slow or negligible population growth and the period of accelerating population growth. We marked 1911-21 as the dividing period, because, it is after 1921, India witnessed a regular-gradual increase in the population growth.

In short, The population growth rate was very slow before 1921, but it gradually kept on increasing after 1921.

Further, 1911-21 is the only decade in the demographic history of India when the population showed a negative growth rate.
