Ukrainian drone operators are helping strengthen Swedish and NATO capabilities.

Several Ukrainian drone operator units have arrived in Sweden to take part in the Aurora 2026 exercises alongside Swedish and allied military personnel. Their combat experience and knowledge of the modern battlefield are now being applied in practice, the Swedish Ministry of Defense said.

Aurora 2026 is considered one of the largest security and defense exercises in the Baltic region. It brings together military personnel from 18 countries, including representatives of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

The exercises cover key aspects of modern warfare on land, in the air, and at sea. Troops are practicing rapid deployment, protection of logistics corridors, air defense operations, armored maneuvering, drone integration, and coordination of multinational forces on the battlefield.

Ukrainian “anti-Shahed” An-28 has shot down 213 enemy drones using a machine gun and interceptor drones, — “Militarny,i” citing analysis of a report by The New York Times.

American journalists described the work of the so-called “Shahed hunter” — a converted civilian An-28 transport aircraft.

There are 213 markings on its fuselage for downed targets, mostly Shahed and Gerbera drones. Among them is also a rare target — the Russian Corsair UAV, at least one of which was shot down back in 2022.

Additional markings near some of the symbols indicate the use of interceptor drones. In April, it became known that P1-SUN interceptor drones developed by SkyFall were integrated into the An-28. The aircraft has at least three hardpoints under each wing, allowing it to carry up to six interceptors at once.

The aircraft is also equipped with an optical station for visual detection of aerial targets. To engage them, the crew uses a six-barreled M134 Minigun.
