A girl became addicted to social media from childhood and won $6 million in court over it. Meta and Google lost the case.

The 20-year-old California resident says she gave up other hobbies. YouTube and Instagram caused her to suffer from anxiety, depression, and body dysmorphia.

The court ordered the companies to pay $3 million in compensation and another $3 million in punitive damages. Meta must cover 70% of the amount, while Google will pay the remaining 30%.

The companies disagree with the ruling and are preparing an appeal.

The template flags keywords like “wtf”, “this sucks”, “damn it”. Why Anthropic needs this is unclear. Presumably, to analyze negative user reactions.
