This side of the apothecary cabinet is FINISHED!
I was greatly inspired by my good friend (who many of you know ππ¦) painting her china hutch, and the fact that I've been studying Norwegian Rosemaling all summer, and I felt like I just wanted to start adding pieces of myself to my new home! Enter, this!
This side of the cabinet features a great many flowers and plants, important to me and my husband, ancestral and medicinal. It also features Norwegian scrollwork, with intentional colourwork and design throughout.
I'm going to continue painting this cabinet sort of piecemeal. Eventually, it'll be what holds my medicinal herbs and tools, so I want to really make it *mine*.

Itβs my late Motherβs birthday. My Daughter and I picked out some flowers to place in my Momβs prized vase. We pulled out a photo of her that makes us smile. My mountain-mama posing on a rock, amongst the trees, up in the hills that we love so much.
Mom is the reason there is Solkatt. I think back to my childhood and just smile remembering our moments in the garden and her absolute encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and flowers. Those moments where I listened intently and learned her craft with reverence. Precious gems of knowledge locked-in tight to pass on to my own Daughter. And also those moments where I didnβt want to cut back a half acre of bee balm or hear a lecture and how now I wish I hadnβt brushed her off.
My Mother was a powerful, hilarious, talented woman and devoted Mom & Wife. Bountiful gardens, delicious food from scratch, dancing in the living room with our dogs. She lived and breathed the land and her plants. She was a Heathen at a time where that was not popular or common in the least. She had the true animistβs soul and Iβm so grateful she was my Mom. Iβm also so happy I did mostly pay attention to her wisdom and teachings and thus I carry on these traditions with my Daughter. This is the way. This is what matters.
