“Moraes is an activist judge who abused his authority by engaging in a targeted and politically motivated effort to silence political critics through the issuance of secret orders against online platforms, including U.S.-based social media companies, banning individuals’ accounts for posting protected content.

Moraes further abused his position by authorizing unfair pretrial detentions and undermining freedom of speech. The actions taken by Moraes affect U.S. citizens and businesses, and the United States will not tolerate malign foreign actors who abuse their positions of authority to undermine the free expression of American citizens!”

💬 “I won’t get ahead of what we may announce in terms of new sanctions or further actions. What I can say is to point to this action and, again, emphasize how seriously we take this,” the spokesperson added.
