The progressive narrative surrounding the medieval era usually goes:
“The Dark Ages were terrible! The medicines were dangerous and unscientific and they believed in witchcraft. What backwards, ignorant imbeciles!”
Then we jump to the progressive modern era and see the world’s governments pushing poison on their entire populations while their women and youth call themselves witches and engage in astrology.

Today we return to our most popular “conservative” LCMS pastor. Our friend faces a dilemma.
On the one hand, he can keep his status as most conservative gatekeeper, constantly staying 30 years behind the leftist march through his own church. This is very popular. The world applauds him any time he attempts to defang, defame, or defrock those actual, unfashionable conservatives to the right of him that would harm his public image. In short, he could just back the current status quo and let things go as they are. Maybe in thirty years he’ll wonder what went wrong as the first female LCMS “pastor” is ordained.
On the other hand, he could surrender his very popular position as the gatekeeper and acknowledge that these anonymous men are anonymous and angry for a reason. Perhaps all of these modern policies in the LCMS and Christianity at large are actually direly harming them when the opposite should be happening. Perhaps these men are having their rightful authority usurped by modernists and progressives. Perhaps, even, their gatekeeping, false-right opponents have facilitated this. Maybe, just maybe, it’s not a competition to be “most based,” but rather this is a series of natural and truthful reactions that are uncomfortable to modern ears. To admit this and do the right thing would lose our friend his vain, egotistical popularity, though.
This is, frankly, quite a disgraceful set of events.
