Day 1 of Central Asian Jessup Summer School [hereinafter JSS] (01.08.2022)

After landing to the capital of Kazakhstan, a beautiful and fast-growing city Nur-Sultan, we have started to explore it more (when we had free time from our studies)

After delicious breakfast in the morning, Opening Ceremony of School was conducted, followed by informative lecture on PIL. After lunch, the Jessup Competition was explained in details to participants of JSS, and the most interesting part, a mini-compromis was introduced to newly divided teams! And now, the members of TSUL Jessup Team are in 4 different and amazing groups, with whom they will write memos and plead at the end.

After the classes, our team visited the Central Nur-Sultan park, had McDonald's burgers, went to Khan-Shatyr (huge mall) and finished the day after seeing the city center.

And this is just the beginning,

Stay tuned

Jessup 2023 has officially begun with the problem release!
Shortly about the Jessup Central Asian Rounds 2023 ('JCAR23').

After being held for a long time in the virtual format, the JCAR were finally conducted in-person this year of 2023 in the Case concerning the Clarent Belt.

These rounds took place in Tashkent State University of Law ('TSUL'), Uzbekistan, and have been considered to be the biggest rounds so far that have ever been conducted in the region.

Several teams from universities of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan participated in the JCAR23, that took place between 15-18th of February. On Feb 16th, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan teams competed for the national championship to represent their countries, and on Fen 17th, friendly rounds were conducted.

Our team expresses its sincere gratitude for the organizers, sponsors and volunteers of the event. Special thanks to amazing judges for their invaluable feedback!

We had an amazing time during these rounds. Especially the coffee breaks we had with our dear friends from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were truly great. We wish all the best luck to every advancing team in the international rounds and we can't wait to see you all once again now in Washington DC!

@tsuljessup #jessup2023
Moving on to our participation in the Jessup Uzbekistan National Rounds 2023 ('Jessup UzNR23').

In the Jessup UzNR23, as usual, three universities took part. These are the University of World Economy and Diplomacy ('UWED'), Westminster International University in Tashkent ('WIUT') and Tashkent State University of Law ('TSUL').

In the first round, we played as the Applicant State with WIUT, and in the next round as the Respondent State with UWED. Due to the number of participating teams, our national rounds do not have the preliminaries or the finals. This means that the team, who wins in both matches, wins the national championship.

According to the final results, our TSUL Team has won in both rounds and has become the Uzbekistan National Champion of 2023. In addition, all of our speakers have been ranked to be the top oralists. More specifically, they have won the Best Oralist, the Runner-up Best Oralist and the Fourth Best Oralist awards. Other two members have contributed immensely to this victory with their amazing researching skills, without which our team would not have won any round. (There will be individual posts about each team member very soon)

All teams in the national rounds were excellent in their written and oral submissions. We truly did have fun playing with WIUT (@wiut_jessupcommunity) and UWED (@uwed_jessup). No wonder why these teams, in years when they won the championship, ranked to be among the strongest teams in the internationals. We wish all the best to both teams in their future endeavors, and see you next year in the Jessup UzNR 2024!

This is Sherali Juraev😁

Sherali is the second-year student of the international law and comparative legislation faculty of TSUL. He is really into learning languages, especially he likes the German language. Also, Sherali has a very friendly character. However, whenever someone acts in a way contrary to his values, he likes to take "extraordinary" measures as a countermeasure. We think that this is the reason for his curiosity on the question of the sanctions😅

@tsuljessup #jessup2023
Meet Sarvarkhon Nosirkhonov😁

A second-year student of the international law and comparative legislation faculty of TSUL, Sarvar is fond of learning the French language. His jokes are so realistic and funny, that sometimes we can't distinguish what is an actual joke. We think that this is the reason why he doesn't like Dan Vortigern. He seems to think that Vortigern plays his game of clowning too well😃

@tsuljessup #jessup2023
This is Dildora Kholikova😊

A second-year student of the public law faculty at TSUL, Dildora is considered to be the strongest sophomore with the highest GPA among her peers. For some reason, she is always late to our practices. Her best defense is her usual situation of an emergency. Maybe this is why she is overly empathetic to Ragnell, the State which also likes rely on self-helps. Whatever the reason for her being late, she always nails the practices. No wonder why she got the Best Oralist Award in the Uzbekistan National Championship😃

@tsuljessup #jessup2023
Meet Utkirbek Rivojiddinov😁

A third-year student of the international law and comparative legislation faculty at TSUL, Utkirbek loves the moot court competitions and to learn different languages. Now he is learning Korean. One of his interesting traits is to overthink everything and anything, because of which he cannot simply choose only one side. Maybe for this reason he was chosen to plead both as an Applicant and Respondent in the nationals. Whatever the reason is, he nailed it in both his rounds and won the Runner-up Best Oralist, losing in scores only to Dildora (his own co-agent)😄

@tsuljessup #jessup2023
This is Akhrorkhon Nabiraev😁

A senior student of the international law and comparative legislation faculty at TSUL, Akhror likes to play on people's nerves. He also likes to play football. Akhror does not believe neither in Dildora's nor in Ragnell's self-helps. As the oldest team member, he works for 100%, yet couldn't get 100 in the nationals. However, he nailed a 99% score from one judge, and consequently topped to be the 4th Best Oralist in the Uzbekistan NRs😄

@tsuljessup #jessup2023
Meet the greatest Coach of all time, Mr Sébastien Lafrance (or how we call him Séb)😎

If you ask the mixture of the most demanding, caring and intelligent person, Séb will be the perfect example. Our victory in the national rounds is only because of his huge and invaluable contribution. In order to support us in the national rounds, Séb travelled from Canada to Uzbekistan. This is crazy, especially considering that these two countries are located in two different continents. Our respect to Séb is limitless and we are the luckiest team to have him as our Coach this year. We love him as much as he goes crazy about the plov (an uzbek traditional dish)😄

@tsuljessup #jessup2023
This concludes the individual introductions of our team members.

We are immensely grateful for Jessup for gathering all these wonderful people into one amazing team. As we have started our preps for international rounds right after the nationals, they have already become more challenging and interesting. We can't wait to meet with all the advancing teams from all around the world and make life-long connections. See you and good luck in DC 🙌

The 2024 Jessup Central Asian Rounds (JCAR24) and team's participation in it:

🌟 This year, the JCAR24 took place in the stunning city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, hosted by KIMEP University. Universities from across Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, gathered at JCAR24 to compete for their National Championship and, of course, to have fun.

⚖️ On Feb 15th, three teams from Uzbekistan competed against each other for their National Championships. From Feb 15th to 16th, teams from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan participated in their preliminary rounds, with the final round for their respective National Championships taking place on Feb 17th.

💫 Our team really enjoyed being part of JCAR24 and valued the interactions with other teams during the competition and coffee breaks.

🌎 We extend enormous thanks to the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and judges for their efforts in making JCAR24 a success.

🏆Congratulations to all advancing teams, and best of luck in the International Rounds in Washington DC!

@tsuljessup
Our team’s participation in the 2024 Jessup Uzbekistan National Rounds (Jessup UzNR24):

Like last year, three universities from Uzbekistan took part in Jessup UzNR24. The opponents of our team were Westminister International University of Tashkent (WIUT) and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED).

The case of the present year concerned the Sterren Forty. In the first round, we pleaded as Respondent against WIUT Jessup Team, while in the second round, our team pleaded as an Applicant against UWED Jessup Team.

In general, TSUL Jessup Team won all rounds 9-0 and has become the 2024 National Champion of Uzbekistan. Moreover, our team has won the prizes of the ‘Best Memorial’ and the ‘Best Oralist’ of Uzbekistan. Our team will now represent Uzbekistan in the International Rounds in Washington, DC.

Notably, due to the outstanding results of our last year’s team, this year Uzbekistan will be represented by two teams: the National Champion - TSUL Jessup Team, Runner-up team - WIUT Jessup Team.

Huge thanks to all teams that outstandingly participated in Jessup UzNR24! We wish you luck in your future endeavors!

@tsuljessup
Meet Kumushkhon Abdumutalimova, a devoted third-year student specializing in Public Law and distinguished as a top achiever in her faculty, having the highest GPA.

She is really disciplined, so she does not forget to put her make-up and being well-dressed always in any circumstances. And yes, about the circumstances, she pleaded on her birthday and nailed it fully getting the highest scores from judges.

She is very kind, caring and loves helping to other students at the university, so that she is determined to protect the rights of stateless students (‘the Sterren Forty’) before the International Court of Justice.

@tsuljessup
Meet Javokhir Miraliev, a dedicated third-year student at Tashkent State University of Law, majoring in International Law and Comparative Legislation.

Due to his consistent participation in different moot courts at TSUL, he has quite good experience in finding loopholes in the law relevant to the case.

Since he loves sleeping so much, there are some rumors in the team that he finds all his arguments in his dreams. Rumors also say that his loyalty extends beyond his friends and teammates - he has apparently taken on the role of protector of Queen Khasat and her friend, Ms. Shaw.

Who knew that a love for napping could lead to such noble responsibilities? 😁
