A Kansas district court has ruled that the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) exceeded its authority when it attempted to place a public safety sales tax renewal on the ballot for purposes beyond those originally intended by state statute. The court declared the county's measure "null and void," siding with Attorney General Kris Kobach's opinion and dealing a defeat to County Chairman Mike Kelly.
