What is the common denominator that links all intelligent life? It is the need to survive as long as possible. I suspect that if intelligent life could live forever, it would. There would be medical teams to track, secure, tag and extract necessary materials. Individual animals and blood lines would have to be tracked constantly, so that they could be retrieved on demand.

Let me speculate, based upon my experiences and perspective, about what really happened: Aliens made contact with principal Earth governments years before the Roswell crash. They explained to the Earth leaders that environmental disaster was imminent and that we had to do something about it.
Our leaders, however, guessed that Earth populations were not ready for knowledge of aliens just yet. For the few who have succeeded, a life of misery awaits them, as they attempt to transform others to their negative thoughts, followed by a long period of readjustment in the lower realms of the afterlife.
