Having witnessed a cloudy, late night mass movement, high altitude ( NE to SW) of “aircraft” in formations over DC, visible during breaks in the clouds, a while back, it appeared this was a gathering for major high altitude/space battle.

I saw nothing further of that event, but it was clearly not an Earth based event.
