ICYMI: New York AG Letitia James joined 11 other states to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Wednesday, alleging the president violated the law by imposing global tariffs.
James recently made waves with a fiery tirade against allegations from the White House of mortgage fraud. “I’m not afraid of no president!” she railed after she was referred to the DOJ for prosecution.
Now, she’s coming after Trump again.
“The president does not have the power to raise taxes on a whim, but that’s exactly what President Trump has been doing with these tariffs,” James said in a statement.
Trump stated that the White House can impose tariffs using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which allows the executive branch to investigate, restrict, prohibit, or regulate imports and exports with foreign nations in response to an “unusual or extraordinary threat.”
