OMG @ToreSays My mom is in her 80s and I am her medical proxy so her healthcare calls come to me. I’ve worked in Healthcare Management for over 35 years so I am very familiar with all things healthcare. I just got a call from her “healthcare insurance”. They were called United Screening (her insurance is United Healthcare - red flag). They wanted her to know they have sent out a “genetic healthcare screening kit” and wanted to make sure she does the swab and returns it so they can “screen” her for genetic concerns. It’s a part of her “benefits” as stated on page 32 of her benefit book (they know no one keeps that). Of course, I had questions. I told him no thanks she does not need this. How did he get her info? Through her insurance he said. They had an old address of hers - not current (red flag). Ummm - it’s hard to get genetic testing when someone NEEDS it. 🤔 (red flag) Oh but he said we just want to check for genetic issues - your doctor does not look for those things. Little does he know my mom does happen to have a genetic disorder and has had all kinds of testing at Mayo for it (sadly knowing what I do now). After ending call I looked this company up. Nothing I could find. I looked up her benefits booklet and page 32. Yeah, that’s not at all what’s on page 32. So this is a scam and they are COLLECTING DNA!!! 😳😡 people beware and warn your elderly. They fall for these scams! Actually, a lot of people would fall for this. 😔
