🔮TON Torrent has arrived

Many have been waiting for a TON Torrent equivalent since the introduction of TON Storage, and now it's here!

A developer nicknamed xssnick posted a repository with TON Torrent, downloadable on Windows, Mac, or Linux.

TON Torrent allows you to download files from a home Internet connection, as long as they are on static IP address nodes.

To download a file, open the application, click "+Add" and enter the bagID, usually found on the @firsttontracker forum or the torrentracker.ton website (requires the TON Proxy browser extension).

For example, you can download a documentary about Pavel Durov (2021) by entering this bagID: E5319D0D750CA9A1C5DE97D869AC7D5904A605313175CE038151C496E5E7F705

Recently, one of the core developers of Telegram, Anatoly Makosov (Tolya Yanot), shared a story with a bagID containing photos of the Gateway conference in Dubai:

To upload a file, click the "Create" button, write the name of the distribution and specify the path to the folder where the file/files are located.

To share it, copy the bagID, or export the file in the .tonbag format.

You no longer have to log into the cloud in order to upload files. All you need to do is keep them on your PC so that your friends can download them in just a couple of clicks.

This is a separate branch of the Web3 ecosystem, and has its own history, and has been in demand since its inception. Now, thankfully, its services have become more accessible, simpler and safer.

TON Storage has the potential to become a major storage utility for the massive amounts of data from TON users, and even Telegram, but this is still yet to come.

🔮TON joins Bitget Wallet

Bitget Wallet (formerly known as BitKeep Wallet), announced adding TON as a supported currency.

Bitget Wallet is a multi-chain wallet connecting more than 80 networks, by the Bitget cryptocurrency exchange (ranks 9th on CMC). Its ecosystem also boasts an NFT marketplace, copy trading, DEX Bitget Swap, and other centralized (CeFi) and decentralized (DeFi) products.

In the future, Bitget Wallet plans to expand by supporting TON dApps, token trading, and candle chart functions. It also aims to launch innovative features based on TON and Telegram, such as the recent Telegram lottery.

To date, the Bitget wallet serves over 12 million users worldwide, is one of the most popular cryptocurrency wallets in the world, and ranks fourth by number of app downloads in October.

🤯Stress testing TON

The Tonano project was released today, introducing TON-20: a Bitcoin inscriptions equivalent. The Twitter crowd, previously involved with the BRC-20, rushed onto the opportunity. People started farming tokens with the $NANO ticker, sending transactions with the same comment to the same address for burning coins, creating excessive load, under which Tonapi crashed.😔

Requests will keep being accepted until all transactions have been processed. For instance, you can enter any amount on the site and mint the specified amount up to 4 times per transaction. At the moment, only ~ 0.11% of the total support of 2.1 billion has been minted.

The website tonscan.org stopped displaying tokens for a while, while tonapi.io was completely unavailable, prompting the administrators to post the following message:

We are under DDoS attack. Tonapi is currently unavailable.

UPD: This isn't a DDoS attack, but rather an abnormality in the blockchain. We are investigating the problem.

UPD: TON API is back.

This shows how much the TON API affects the ecosystem: if it fails, it drags down half of the ecosystem with it: Tonkeeper, STON, and DeDust.

In our opinion, this stress test will have a positive impact on the development and optimization of indexers, and we hope everyone will draw conclusions on this matter. Meanwhile, this micro-event brought additional publicity to our ecosystem.

📰Update on the recent technical incidents

The TON Foundation has released a technical report on the recent events and the current situation, which we'll summarize below.

The surge in transactional activity on the TON blockchain in the last two days caused a slowdown in transaction processing. The peak load occurred between the 5 and 6 of December, though it hasn't posed any threat to smart contracts and user assets.

The 3 million new transactions have caused issues for the validators that were using suboptimal equipment and unable handle the increased load.

The main reason for the slowdown is the inadequate capacity of some validators' equipment. Though it was able to handle the previously low load, as soon as the transaction volume increased, it ran into trouble.

Efforts are underway to put pressure on validators by increasing accountability, improving network performance, and enforcing a penalty system. Patches designed to optimize existing nodes are being rolled out.

Note: The TON blockchain remains operational, scalable, and able to process increasingly large transaction volumes.

Validators are urged to promptly upgrade their equipment according to the corresponding recommendations. For important announcements, refer to TON Status.

FAQ summary:
- TON did not experience failure, only a slowdown
- The penalty system will become more rigorous after the incident
- Many transfers onto the same address do not cause any issues for TON
- The commission structure will remain the same for validators with appropriate equipment

💵Rise after the fall

The TON network was finally cleared of spam transactions thanks to the new TON-20 standard on burning address.

Wallets and transactions are working fine, though Tonkeeper has retained its warning on potential problems for now.

Currently, users are reporting on Fragment being unstable. This may be due to the sorting of purchases and sales at the time of network load, and it should return to normal operation soon.

The price of TON has not decreased at all, it even gained a foothold at $2.36. Whether this is because of market makers or users' foresight is not entirely clear, though I like to think that this is due to the influence and dedication of our userbase.

Despite the difficulties, a team of core developers, enthusiasts, and developers from other TON projects have come together to solve this common challenge.

They eliminated it quickly and efficiently, the community did a good job on communication, mistakes got fixed, and we hope that such cases will not happen again. Even if they do, we know that our superheroes will not let our ecosystem fall.

💲A transaction from the FTX wallet

Yesterday, there was a deposit to Kucoin made from of the wallet of the bankrupt centralized exchange FTX amounting to 450,000 TON.

This transfer has certainly affected the market price and got the value of Toncoin to the $2 mark. Meanwhile, the "BitGo FTX Bankruptcy Vault" wallet remains at 12,964,415.33 TON (~$26,914,126).

According to Spot On Chain, FTX has sold off assets of almost $600 million up until now.

Earlier, Bankman-Fried has proposed a deal to purchase $120 million worth of TON and provide payment processing services for Telegram.

FTX has since adjusted its sell offer and plans not to make public announcements about upcoming transactions, given that it could have a negative impact on the market.

How much of an impact will a $12 million crypto dump have? We can only imagine. This is where the market maker should step in to provide stability.

🌐250 million TON transactions processed

On December 9, the TON network reached the milestone of 200 million transactions processed during the entire time of its existence, and a week later this figure reached ~256,252,737 million transactions, according to Tonscan.

58 million transactions were achieved thanks to continued token minting on the TON-20 standard (DTON). Here are some more indicators:
— Total network commission: 118,808 TON
— Unique holders: 69,931
— Unique tokens: 3,059

The transaction processing speed on the TON network keeps pace with the demand (Tonviewer). With the implementation of the new standard, the number of transactions processed per day increased from ~200k to several million (15 million on December 11th).

Note that the number of active wallets on the network is approaching 1 million (989,828 at the time of writing, per Tonstat). After the new validators update, TON processes all transactions using only 2 shards, so thanks to the deflationary mechanism and a large number of transactions, 160k TON were successfully burned so far.

The network keeps up, transactions are spinning, tokens are being minted, indexers fix errors, and the number of wallets is rising!

Yesterday, the Arbitrum blockchain's sequencer could not cope with the load and suspended the production of blocks on the L2 network. The sequencer is the server that receives, verifies, and combines transactions into blocks. The blockchain was temporary shut down due to a surge in transactions, which reached 4.39 million on December 15.

The trend with inscriptions, which started off with the brc20 standard on the BTC network, and since December 5 already in TON, has now come to the Arbitrum.

📦More than 100,000 unique owners of TON-20 inscriptions

Since TON-20 inscriptions came out, two marketplaces have formed: Shard and Tonano. As transactions started rolling out, they also generated quite an impressive volume.

The market volume of Shard is 25,640 TON (~$57,437)
The market volume of Tonano is 214,441 TON (~$480,404)

Since inscriptions have been introduced, the network has processed over 83 million transactions, burning over 173,000 TON, which impacted the income of validators, as well as staking APY.

4 of the TOP 5 tickers have been 100% minted, and a total of 107,188 unique holders own all inscriptions.

Inscriptions with "dedust.io" ticker are 89.4% complete, and the dev team also purchased the domain ton20.market proclaiming: "Everything starts with the purchase of a domain."

Thanks to the trend set by the Tonano team, a new GRAM-20 inscription format has been created. It's got a different approach with minting through TMA and paid transactions of 0.9 TON for 24 mints.

Users in the community split into 2 opposing sides. 🧐 Some believe that inscriptions are not needed and will only ruin the TON concept. Others believe that on the contrary it will attract and introduce even more new users to the ecosystem.

🔓xRocket got hacked

This morning, users of the multifunctional custodial wallet xRocket had trouble withdrawing tokens from the TON network. The following information is tentative and requires verification.

Several Russian-language sources reported that withdrawing TON and tokens was not possible, unless assets were converted to USDT. The hacker commented about this in a post.

Later, the user that got hold of the wallet wrote:

You should be thankful that I did it. If it had been someone else, he probably wouldn't have returned anything.

Dmitry Nekelov indeed returned 50,000 TON (1 • 2 • 3). He also claimed to have received 30,000$ as a reward, as well as 'other benefits'. Отследить другие транзакции вы можете в этом кошельке.

At the moment, the wallet has been suspended, and the xRocket team has stated the following:

"Technical maintenance, the bot will be launched within a few hours. Please be patient."

This is another case that demonstrates how vulnerable our funds are in custodial services. After all, all the hard-earned funds can be stolen or seized due to the lack of a private key. (Not to diss xRocket, but it's a valid point to consider).

The team has acknowledged the error, compensated the users and took measures to prevent similar cases in the future.
