Many people have been asking about the different types of TOEFL practice tests:

TPO 1-66:
These are official test practice questions from ETS. TPO 1-66 are older tests that ETS released until around 2015. Since the test evolved slightly over the years, there are some minor differences from the current test. However, the differences are so minor that most people can’t tell the difference, and it is still a great resource to practice. I recommend using these for general practices if you have at least 3-6 months to practice before the test. (Quality: 8/10)

TPO 67-73: 👑
These TPOs are newer practice tests (TPO 73 was released around 2021) from ETS. and are really good for practicing not only official questions but also recent questions. I highly recommend using these to practice within 3 months of your test date. (Quality: 9/10)

BARRON’S:
If you’re familiar with the American education system, you will probably know that Barron’s is one of the most established test prep publishers, along with Kaplan and Princeton Review. The questions in Barron’s are typically known to be a little more difficult than the real test, and this is the case for TOEFL too. Even though these questions don’t completely mimic the real test, they are still great for practicing, for “over-preparing,” or for your general English improvement. (Quality: 7/10)

TESTADMIT:
TestAdmit is the creator of a TOEFL mock test site. They created their own 12 full mock tests to let students practice. If you’re an experienced TOEFL test taker, you may notice slight differences between these questions and official TOEFL questions from ETS. Despite saying that, these questions are a lot better and similar to the real test than the practice tests you find in almost all other 3rd party websites. It certainly is a great resource to practice if you don’t have any official questions to practice. (Quality: 7/10)

ETS OFFICIAL:
ETS released 3 books to prepare for the TOEFL test: Official TOEFL iBT Tests Vol 1, Official TOEFL iBT Tests Vol 2, and ETS Official Guide. However, here’s the catch: disappointingly, even though these are questions created by the test maker, many of the content and style of the questions somehow don’t look and feel like the current TOEFL tests as much as TPO, ZTPO, or past exam questions. If you can get a hold of TPO, ZTPO, or past exam questions, then do those first. If you can’t, then these can be your options. (Quality: 7/10)

PAST EXAMS: 👑
ETS only releases very limited test questions from many many years ago as TPO or ZTPO questions. However, some institutions and individuals are still able to get a hold of these questions, making these questions very valuable. Be warned: I see many people on Facebook claiming that they have past TOEFL exams. If you see a Facebook post with keywords such as “America Center,” “leaked questions,” or “TOEFL certificate,” it is a scam. The only resource that we know that offers actual past TOEFL questions is from TestAdmit. (Quality: 9.5/10)

ZTPO: 👑
ZTPO differs from TPO in that ZTPO contains questions that may actually appear in a future TOEFL test. As you may or may not know, ETS often times recycles old test questions to appear again in future tests to save the cost in creating new TOEFL questions, and ZTPO is the database of these future tests. There’s no guarantee that your actual TOEFL test will contain one of these questions, but the chance is greater than 0%, whereas the chances of seeing TPO or ETS Official questions on your TOEFL test is 0%. These are the highest quality of test questions to practice, and I highly recommend using these as your study resource for the last 1-2 months before your test. (Quality: 10/10)

A new TOEFL Bulletin was just published.  All test-takers are supposed to read the bulletin cover to cover before taking the test.
The Bulletin includes information about the new version of the test.  It also indicates that test-takers may no longer pay their fees using paper checks and money orders.

As I’m sure you know by now, the TOEFL iBT from 26 July onwards includes a new writing task. So if you’re taking TOEFL after 26 July, you should practice to become familiar with this new writing task.

ETS has created some free practice questions. Here is the link for them
https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt-enhancements/prep.html
I find it crazily difficult to find anything on the ETS website, so I recommend that you save this link somewhere convenient :)

This practice is great because it comes from ETS so you know that these questions will be very similar to ones you’ll encounter in the real exam.

After you’ve completed each question, you’ll receive an “immediate, unofficial, AI-generated score to gauge your performance”. Notice that last phrase -> “gauge your performance”.

That means:
🔷 look carefully at what you’ve written
🔷 understand the score you’ve been given
🔶 and if you haven’t met your target score
🔶 work out what you need to do to improve

In other words, give yourself feedback. If you don’t know how to give yourself feedback, or you don’t know where you’re going wrong, get someone to help you.

At the moment, there are 14 questions to practice. ETS is going to add 2 questions each week leading up to 26 July. That’s PLENTY of questions to practice from. If you’re studying wisely, you probably won’t need to do them all.

Some TOEFL takers asked whether the TOEFL Home Edition is accepted by universities or not?

As far as I know the TOEFL Home Edition gets scrapped and has no more significant to some purposes. Like for instance,

Some schools reject the Home Edition because it in insecure. Other schools accept the Home Edition because they feel it is secure.
Some scholarship committees may reject the Home Edition because they feel it is insecure. Others may accept it because they think it is fine. Please go find the best option which fits your interest so as to elevate the integrity of admission in a certain university.

The National Association For Boards of Pharmacy wholly rejects the home edition.

This question style will be used on the new TOEFL iBT starting July 26

The test-taker must read the question posted by the professor and the two student responses.  Finally, they should write their own response which addresses the question and adds to the conversation

Your professor is teaching a class on social studies. Write a post responding to the professor’s question.  In your response, you should

express and support your personal opinion
- make a contribution to the discussion in your own words

An effective response will contain at least 100 words.

Professor
:      Today, we’re going to discuss the impact of social media on society. On one hand, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have connected people from all over the world. However, there are concerns about the negative effects of social media, such as the spread of misinformation, the rise of cyberbullying, and addiction to social media use. What do you think? Does social media cause more harm than good?

Sarah:      I think that social media has caused more harm than good. While it’s true that social media platforms have connected people in unprecedented ways, they have also caused real harm to individuals and societies. Additionally, social media platforms have been linked to mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, particularly among young people.

Mark:      I disagree with Sara. I think that social media has mostly improved society. For instance, it has given a voice to people that previously were ignored. Moreover, it has provided a platform for political activism that has led to positive change. And, of course, social media has made it easy for everyone to stay connected to family and friends who are far away. While there are negative aspects of social media, they are far outweighed by the benefits.

Sample Answer:     I strongly agree with Mark’s idea that social media gives a voice to people that society used to ignore. I’d add that it is almost impossible for most people to get their messages on television or in print media because those are controlled by companies and wealthy individuals. Sarah raised the relevant point that social media causes mental health problems in some young people, but she didn’t mention that social media can also help us to cope with and recover from such problems.  For example, there are a lot of support groups on communities like Facebook where people can talk about their struggles and get advice from people going through similar experiences.  Overall, then, I would say that social media is mostly advantageous.

🔥The cost of taking the TOEFL increased in some countries this week.  It went up by $105 in Switzerland.  It went up by $90 in Israel.  It went up by $75 in the Philippines.  Those are some of the biggest price hikes I've ever seen.
