The bar chart provides a comparative analysis of obesity rates among male and female Australians over a 30-year period from 1980 to 2010, represented as percentages.

Overall, both men and women experienced an upward trend in obesity during the surveyed period, with men exhibiting noticeably higher increases. It is also worth mentioning that male Australians reported an all-time high adiposity level compared to their female counterparts during the timeframe.

Australian overweight men, at the commencement of the period, accounted for less than half, a figure that experienced a slight uptick to just above 50% in 1990. Over the subsequent decade, there was a pronounced increase, reaching a chart high of 70%, followed by a final negligible drop of about 2-3% in 2010.

In contrast, the percentage of obese female Australians stood at 30% in 1980, noticeably lower than that of their male counterparts. The figure then reported a consistent increasing trend, with each ensuing decade seeing a ten-percentage point rise until 2000. Unlike the tendency observed in men, the obesity rate among women plateaued in the last ten years of the period, maintaining the 50% level in 2010.

💠 CAUSE AND SOLUTION
⚡️ Q: In many countries, childhood obesity is a growing problem.
What are the reasons for this and what can individuals and governments do to tackle this problem?

In recent years, many countries worldwide have witnessed alarming increase in childhood obesity, which, if not addressed, will lead to severe health complications for future populations. This issue can be attributed to significant changes in life and dietary habits, so it is imperative that both individuals and governments take action to mitigate these changes.

The dietary patterns of young people have undergone dramatic transformations over dozens of years. Processed foods have become exceedingly popular among the youth, and these foods are often high in saturated fats and refined sugars, both of which are proven contributors to obesity. This issue is exacerbated by the fact that many children now lead sedentary lifestyles, resulting in an insufficient expenditure of the calories consumed. In fact, sedentary behaviors, including but not limited to television viewing, computer use, and video game playing, often replace vigorous activity in children. At the same time, more convenience store snacks, and sweetened beverages are available now than in the past generations. These factors are the primary drivers of childhood obesity which necessitate to be addressed by both individuals and local authorities so that we can combat this major public dilemma.

There are several actions individuals can take to alleviate this problem. Educating young children on how to lead a healthy lifestyle and encouraging them to be more physically active is crucial, a combination of multifaceted solutions that parents and schools should bear the main responsibility for this. Parents, in particular, should monitor their children’s dietary intake and promote healthier food choices. Since children tend to imitate their parents’ behaviors as well as eating habits, parents’ influence is thought to be the strongest during childhood, especially in early ages, when parents act as role model, enforcers, and providers. Therefore, intervention programs in some states of the US have already considered what parents consume alongside the parental influence in terms of what parents feed their children and how they feed them.

Governments also play a vital role in tackling this issue. They should advocate for a healthy lifestyle among their citizens and ensure that children have access to subsidized sports facilities. Additionally, governments can implement measures to improve dietary habits by regulating food ingredients and making unhealthy foods less affordable, an initiative that some countries have already begun by introducing a “sugar tax” on sugary products. As the consumption of SSBs and soft drinks has soared, mainly associated with rising rates of weight gain, a higher risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease, as well as a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality due to the long-term consumption, Hungary, a crystal clear example, showed a considerable reduction in the slope of overweight prevalence after taxation was implemented, thereby achieving a massive decline in diabetes prevalence albeit on a slower scale.

In conclusion, the rising levels of obesity among children represent a critical issue that requires immediate attention to avoid apparent future health problems. However, understanding the underlying clauses allows us to take effective steps towards involving a healthier lifestyle for our youth.

🔴 Outweigh essay
🟢Nowadays there is a growing trend of private car ownership.

Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages or environmental problems associated with this?
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
In recent years, private car ownership has surged globally, sparking debates on its implications. While some argue that the convenience and economic benefits of owning a car outweigh the downsides, others contend that the environmental and social consequences are too significant to ignore.

To begin with, private car ownership often provides undeniable convenience and independence. Owning a car enables individuals to travel at their own pace, avoiding the constraints of public transportation schedules. For instance, a car owner can easily manage their time, combining work commutes with personal errands, thereby enhancing productivity. This flexibility is particularly beneficial in regions with inadequate public transport systems, making car ownership not just a luxury but a necessity.

The economic benefits of car ownership are also substantial. The automotive industry generates millions of jobs worldwide, from manufacturing to maintenance services. Additionally, car-related businesses contribute significantly to national economies through taxes and sales. Countries like Germany and Japan, a good case in point, with robust automotive sectors, enjoy considerable economic growth partly due to their car industries. Hence, private car ownership indirectly supports economic stability and growth.

Notwithstanding these benefits, the environmental ramifications of widespread car ownership cannot be overlooked. Cars are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to global warming and climate change. The burning of fossil fuels in car engines releases carbon dioxide, a leading greenhouse gas. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), transportation accounts for nearly 30% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, with cars being a significant driver. This environmental degradation poses a severe threat to ecosystems and human health, outweighing the convenience offered by cars.

Another valid concern lies in the increase in private car ownership which exacerbates urban congestion and infrastructure strain. Cities around the world are grappling with traffic jams, which not only waste time but also lead to increased air pollution and stress among commuters. For instance, a study by INRIX found that in 2020, drivers in major cities like New York and London lost an average of 100 hours per year due to traffic congestion. This inefficiency underscores the need for better urban planning and public transportation solutions rather than an over-reliance on private vehicles.

The social consequences of car ownership are worth considering albeit on a smaller scale. The reliance on cars promotes a sedentary lifestyle, contributing to health issues such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Public transportation, walking, and cycling, in contrast, encourage physical activity and social interaction. A shift towards these modes of transport can lead to healthier communities and reduced healthcare costs. Take an example of cities that prioritize cycling infrastructure, like Copenhagen, report higher levels of physical activity and lower incidences of lifestyle-related diseases.

In conclusion, while private car ownership offers significant convenience and economic benefits, the environmental, infrastructural, and social disadvantages are far more compelling. The detrimental impact on the environment, coupled with urban congestion and health issues, suggests that the costs of prevalent car ownership outweigh the benefits.

🔥❤️ PROCESS
The diagram illustrates the process of hydro-electric power generation.

Overall, the hydro-electric power generation process harnesses the natural water cycle to produce electricity. This involves the collection and controlled release of rainwater, conversion of kinetic energy into electrical energy via a turbine and generator, and finally, the distribution of this electricity to various facilities through an extensive network of cables.

The process begins with the natural water cycle, where water from the sea evaporates due to the heat from the sun. The evaporated water then condenses into clouds, which eventually precipitate as rain. The rainwater is collected in a reservoir located behind a dam. This dam plays a crucial role in controlling the flow of water; it has a valve that can be opened or closed to regulate the release of water.

When the valve is opened, water flows from the reservoir through a pipe towards a turbine. The force of the flowing water spins the turbine, which is connected to a generator. This mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy by the generator. The generated electricity is then transmitted via high voltage cables to a transformer station, where the voltage is adjusted to suitable levels for distribution.

The final stage occurs in the transformer station, in which electricity is transmitted through both high voltage and underground cables to various end-users. These end-users include hospitals and schools, ensuring that essential services have a reliable power supply.

💠In some countries, owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people.
Why might this be the case?
Do you think this is a positive or a negative situation?

Home ownership is widely considered more crucial than renting in many parts of the globe, which can be attributed to a range of socio-economic and cultural factors. Although owning a home can provide stability and financial benefits, I believe that it also has implications on social mobility and economic flexibility.

One of the primary reasons why an increasing number of people in some countries prioritize owning a home is the socio-economic security it offers. Home ownership is often regarded as a significant investment and a form of wealth accumulation. For many, it equips a sense of financial stability and security, ensuring that they have a tangible asset that can appreciate over time. In contrast, renting is sometimes viewed as “throwing money away”, as it does not lead to large heritage. Countries like India and China – a few but perfect examples in which the rising real estate market has made property ownership a lucrative investment, incentivizing people to purchase homes despite the high costs involved.

Another valid contributing factor in the preference for home ownership has to do with cultural norms. In many societies, owning a home is associated with personal success, social status, and family commitment, a tendency that is, albeit on a smaller level, believed as a rite of passage into adulthood and an importance of one’s ability to provide for a family. In cultures wherein multi-generational living is common, owning a home can symbolize stability and continuity so that future generations will have a secure place to reside. In Asian countries such as Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, home ownership is deeply ingrained in the cultural standards and is often passed down through generations.

One positive effect of the emphasis on home ownership pertains to having a financially stable society. Homeowners are more likely to fund their properties, leading to better-maintained neighborhoods and communities, thereby contributing to reducing the poverty rate and increase the property values, eventually benefiting the local economy. Additionally, such individuals are prone to have more stable living conditions, as they are not subject to the uncertainties of rental agreements. Studies in some western nations which have shown that homeowners have more opportunities to engage in local civic activities and have a stronger attachment to their communities compared to renters can be a good case in point.

Notwithstanding this, the focus on home ownership can also have negative ramifications, particularly in terms of reduced mobility. In fact, homeowners are often less flexible in relocating for better job opportunities, which can limit career advancement and economic growth. This immobility can be detrimental in a rapidly changing job market where adaptability is crucial. During economic downturns, for instance, countries with high home ownership rates, such as Spain and Greece, experienced noticeable challenges, so people were unable to move to areas with better employment prospects, exacerbating unemployment issues.

Moreover, highlighting home ownership as one of top demands can result in economic inequality and housing market instability. As property prices rise, home ownership becomes increasingly unattainable for lower-income families, widening the wealth gap. This disparity can lead to social tensions and reduced welfare of a whole society. Speculative investments in real estate can also create housing bubbles (imbalance), which, when burst, can cause severe economic crisis. The 2008 financial crisis is a pertinent instance, where the collapse of the housing market in the United States had global repercussions, pointing out the risks related to overemphasis on home ownership.

In conclusion, the preference for home ownership over renting in certain countries is driven by both socio-economic and cultural factors. While owning a home can be

The maps below show changes that took place in Felixstone from 1967 to 2001.
🅰️🅰️🅰️The maps illustrate the significant transformations that occurred in Felixstone between 1967 and 2001. Overall, Felixstone underwent substantial development over the given period, transitioning from a predominantly natural landscape to a more urbanized area with numerous new facilities for recreation and tourism.

In 1967, the town featured a blend of natural and built environments. The northern part of Felixstone consisted of a golf course to the northwest and farmland to the northeast. A main road running east to west was flanked by a row of shops on both sides. In the south of this road, there was a cafe, a hotel adjacent to sand dunes and a fish market near a marina and pier on the coastline.

By 2001, notable changes had been made. The farmland to the northeast was replaced by a newly constructed hotel complex, which included a swimming pool and tennis courts. The area south of the main road saw the most dramatic alterations: the fish market had been removed to make way for a public beach and car park, while wind turbines were installed near the dunes. The marina and pier had disappeared, and the previously open beach area was now divided into public and private sections. Additionally, the hotel next to the dunes had been relocated slightly inland, and the surrounding area was now landscaped with more greenery.

The two maps illustrate the evolution of Queen Mary Hospital from its inception in 1960 to the year 2000. Overall, substantial changes occurred in the hospital, leading to its transformation from a conventional hospital into a comprehensive medical complex.

Initially, in 1960, Queen Mary Hospital was situated in a close proximity to the main road, alongside amenities such as a car park, a shopping center, and agricultural land. By 1980, the hospital's surroundings had shifted dramatically though, with the disappearance of the adjacent farmland and shopping center, making way for new medical facilities including a cancer center, a pharmacy, and a nursing school.

Over the subsequent two decades, while no new facilities were introduced, notable structural adjustments were made. Notably, the cancer center expanded to become the largest building within the hospital premises, resulting in visible reductions in the size of the car park and the nursing school.

🟢The maps below show changes in the Spanish city of Castellon in recent times.
😇🥰😇
The maps illustrate the changes to Castellon city dating back to 2000. Overall, Castellon city has experienced notable urban renewal strategy, with the key developments around the city center including commercial facilities such as new covered shopping centers and recreational amenities like a new cinema, bars, and clubs. It is also clear that the new train station and airport under construction highlight a focus on improving connectivity.

In 2000, Castellon used to be a relatively simpler city with fewer facilities. The primary structures included the train station, the old market, and the university. The city center was a prominent feature, bordered by a road leading to the port. A noticeable area of greenery was present near the university, which used to contribute to the city’s beauty and aesthetic.

Today, the city has become more complex and undergone a significant upgrade. A dramatic change is the establishment of a tramline, which has enhanced accessibility between various parts of the city. The old train station has been replaced with a modern one, accompanied by a new police station nearby. Adjacent to the university, a hall of residence has been constructed to provide students with accommodation. The city center itself has been transformed into a pedestrian-friendly zone, with the introduction of a bike rental scheme to promote more sustainable transportation. Additionally, the old market has made way for a new shop, and a new covered market has been built in proximity, on the other side of the city center. Another shopping center has been erected to the north-east of the city, which resulted in the disappearance of the green area. There is now a pedestrian road which previously used to be for cars. The port area now encompasses bars and clubs, adding to the city’s recreational offerings. Moreover, a new cinema has been established near the waterfront to improve entertainment options for visitors and residents. The last expected change is the structure of a new airport in the east.
