The shadow comprises parts of ourselves that we have exiled from consciousness. Typically, in childhood, we learn that to maintain attachment, we have to hide the qualities deemed unacceptable. We can bury these parts so deeply we don’t realize that we have these aspects, and we only experience them through our perceptions of others.

If we are constantly in our heads, we become dissociated and lose ourselves. Then we make assumptions and projections and overthink things; it's a downward spiral from there. It's critical to take little breaks and to remember ourselves. We need to check in, feel the tension, and stay grounded in our bodies.
