A quarter of a millennium after William Caslon’s eponymous classic, MD Lórien is a new English interpretation of the Dutch Baroque. Based on a careful selection of late-17th to mid-18th-century typefaces from the Low Countries, it gently adapts the ornate, decorative Baroque designs into a practical contemporary family.

Inspired by the logotypes of construction and hi-fi audio brands, DOSS is a collection of four display-oriented typefaces that also reference the aesthetics of ‘90s rave culture and ‘80s sci-fi tropes. The quartet was designed by Marc Rouault over a period of five years, forming a loose confederacy of fonts that reveals his fascination with vernacular typography—in this case, the aesthetics of electronics and their branding.

Crank 8 is a collaboration between Greg Lindy and Henk Elenga, a founding member of the Dutch Design group Hard Werken. It was designed specifically as the font for Elenga’s retrospective show and catalog. Ideas that were discussed for this new font included contemporary, historical, and utilitarian motives. Crank 8 needed to feel machine-made yet reveal the human touch involved in the manufacturing process. Elements in the font are referential and imaginative, enabling Crank 8 to feel both historical and contemporary.
