Day 8 in Syria! 🇸🇾

Today we spent more time exploring Aleppo.

We visited the old market and spoke with a shopkeeper about what it was like working as a trader during the bombardment under the Assad regime.

While walking through the city, we also spotted a quote written on the back of a taxi: “Be whatever you may be. Today you walk this earth, tomorrow you lie buried.”

Later, we stopped at a park that was full of life, with children playing and even a 24-hour shop. On one of the walls was another quote that stood out to us: “With love, we will rebuild it.” See slide 9.

We also visited Abdel-Badie Zanabili, one of Aleppo’s historic family-run soap makers. The family has been making Aleppo soap for generations and continued the craft through the war.

A day spent seeing more of Aleppo through its markets, people and the small details you notice along the way.

9/11 didn’t just change the world. It opened a reckoning the West never closed.
