Volkswagen Works cornerstone ceremony, near Wolfsburg, 1938. The ceremony, which drew approximately 70,000 people, celebrated the construction of a factory to produce the "Kraft durch Freude-Wagen" later known as the Beetle. Due to the outbreak of World War II, the factory's initial focus shifted to producing military vehicles rather than the civilian car.

Hans-Ulrich Rudel
Hans-Ulrich Rudel was a German ground-attack pilot in the Luftwaffe during World War II, known for being the most decorated German combat pilot and the only recipient of the Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, swords and Diamonds.
Rudel flew approximately 2,530 ground-attack missions, primarily in the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka dive bomber, all on the Eastern Front. It is claimed that he has destroyed 519 tanks, one battleship, one cruiser, 70 landing craft, and 150 artillery emplacements.
His motto was "Lost are only those who abandon themselves."
