As AI replicates & even supersedes many of our cognitive abilities, we’ll be forced to figure out what makes us human. But that question is a trap.

If we define our identity by our biological capacities, then there’s no difference between man & machine, thus no boundary to avoid crossing. That’s the core fallacy of materialism & transhumanism. By assuming we’re just matter, we eventually become just matter.

In truth, we’re dual in nature: both biologically human & metaphysically spirit. AI can emulate the biological, so that part of our identity is toast.

But what remains is spirit & its functions. Spirit is nonlocal, nondeterministic, and sentient. AI is none of these. AI can never truly love or receive divine inspiration or survive the dissolution of its form.

So instead of just asking “What makes us human?” we really need to ask “What makes us spirit?” Spirit isn’t an epiphenomenon of matter. It’s a kernel of the divine, seeded into this soil from above.

Much of what we consider “human” originates from spirit, while other factors are exclusively biological. These get mixed up. As a species, we’ve never been forced to put that distinction under the microscope until now.

Hence, AI is a catalyst cleaving us from the false self if we choose wisely, or from the true Self if we choose poorly.

And just as the body must be made subordinate to spirit, so must AI be made subordinate to both. AI is a digital egregore, a phantom of our footprints in matter, and as such it must be kept in its place. That’s only possible if we know who we truly are.
