#Google has released the source code of the OS powering Pebble smart watches.

Pebble, if you're unaware, was a pioneer in the smart watch market, launching a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012, then following it up with 2 more generations. In the end, the startup was acquired by Fitbit, itself getting acquired by Google, with former Pebble employees going on to work on Wear OS.

Now, Google is releasing the source code of PebbleOS, the OS that once powered those watches. Google hopes that this will help the community, mentioning the Rebble project. The source code release will also help people that want to build new smart watches on the PebbleOS platform.

One of those people is Eric Micigowsky, the founder of the startup that started it all. He is planning to release new wearables that retain the core aspects of Pebble watches like the signature e-ink display.

Meet the AI assistant that's slowly dethroning ChatGPT.

Seemingly overnight, DeepSeek became extremely popular, overtaking ChatGPT on app store charts in some countries.

The Chinese company of the same name became famous for DeepSeek R1, a reasoning AI model that matches or even beats OpenAI's o1 in some benchmarks. R1 is open source and requires less processing power than o1, and its smallest variants can even run on regular computers. In the DeepSeek app, the model is available for free, unlike o1 which requires a subscription.

Not to be outdone, OpenAI announced that o3-mini, a part of its flagship o3 series of reasoning models, will be available to all ChatGPT users for free. CEO Sam Altman called its competitor's flagship model "impressive", but said that OpenAI will deliver "much better models" and that computing power is "more important now than ever before".

Technodroid is 5!

This channel was created 5 years ago, with the first post being posted the next day. The channel started by covering the Galaxy S20 Unpacked event in live messages - a tradition we keep to this day.

Over time, the channel grew, covering how various companies adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as leaks and announcements from all sorts of brands, and eventually event recaps too. A few #technotalk opinions were posted - some of which came true. In late 2022, what would become the Technodroid post format was introduced, while the first #exclusive post was made in 2023.

Here's to the next 5 years of interesting tech news - live on Technodroid.

#OpenAI welcomes everyone to "the intelligence age" in its first Super Bowl ad.

The ad shows a brief history of humanity, beginning with the discovery of fire and invention of the wheel, covering events like the first human to land on the Moon, and ending, of course, with a message from ChatGPT, the company's popular AI.

The ad is likely inspired by a recent blog post from CEO Sam Altman, where he says that we're "at the dawn of the intelligence age". The company stated that the video generation tool Sora was used to brainstorm, but the end product was created by humans.

This ad comes in a time of increased discussions about AI safety and ethics, as well as OpenAI facing competition from Chinese AI company DeepSeek.

The #iPhone 17 series likely brings a new camera design.

The current design of iPhone cameras has remained unchanged since 2019, when iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max were released. However, this is about to change.

Leaker Majin Bu shared a photo of prototype camera molds that match up with renders shared earlier by Jon Prosser. The new camera arrangement is more similar to Google's Pixel line that previous iPhones.

However, this is a prototype, and the final iPhone 17 series might have a different design. Notably, Mark Gurman, known for revealing details about upcoming Apple products on Bloomberg, said that Prosser's render is based on a fake sketch.

CAD renders of cases for iPhone 17 Air and Pro were shared too. iPhone 17 Air is a rumored thinner model that will launch alongside the other iPhone 17 series phones.
