"Mac" your calendar for #Apple's announcements next week.

Apple SVP Greg Joswiak shared this teaser. Curiously, it isn't tied to one specific event, which means that the upcoming Macs might not be announced at an event, as is the tradition for Apple's reveals.

As for the products themselves, we already know what one of them is - the M4 powered MacBook Pro, first revealed earlier this month by tech reviewer Wylsacom. Others include an M4 Mac mini - reportedly the size of an Apple TV and available in M4 and M4 Pro variants - as well as an updated iMac and USB-C accessories.

Meet #Apple's first new Mac: the iMac with M4.

After Greg Joswiak told everyone to "Mac" their calendars for a week of announcements, Apple announced their first new computer today: iMac with M4.

With M4's new CPU core, it's up to 1.7x faster than iMac with M1. The new GPU is up to 2.1x faster in tasks like video editing, and the Neural Engine is 3x faster. This is joined by 16GB of unified memory, with a 32GB variant available.

The new iMac is built for Apple Intelligence, the first features of which launch today in iOS 18.1. It's also joined by new accessories, now with USB-C.

This is #Apple's new, redesigned Mac mini.

It's a lot smaller, taking up just 5 by 5 inches on a desk.

Powered by M4, it merges panoramic images in Lightroom Classic up to 4.9x faster than Mac mini with M1, and applies up to 2.8x more audio effect plugins in Logic Pro than Mac mini with Core i7.

And if that's not enough, Apple also introduced M4 Pro. It has up to 14 CPU cores. The GPU has up to 20 cores with ray tracing. The Neural Engine is up to 3x faster than M1, and it supports up to 64GB of unified memory. And that translates to real-world performance - Mac mini with M4 Pro renders scenes in Blender up to 2.9x faster than Mac mini with M2 Pro.

The new computers have two USB-C ports and three Thunderbolt ports. M4 Pro supports up to three 6K displays.

Mac mini with M4 starts at $599, and Mac mini with M4 Pro starts at $1399.

Details about #Samsung's first XR device - or rather, one that will likely launch before it - have leaked.

It's no secret that Samsung is working on an XR device together with Qualcomm and Google. However, recent reports suggest that Samsung will release a pair of smart glasses first.

These glasses are reportedly similar to the Ray-Ban Meta series (pictured), having no screen. The report claims that they use a Snapdragon AR1 chip - which has already been succeeded by the Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 - and a co-processor made by NXP. There will also be a 12MP camera which uses the Sony IMX681 sensor, which is the sensor used by the aforementioned Ray-Ban Meta series glasses. The glasses will be powered by a 155mAh battery and will weigh 50 grams.

The glasses, likely running a version of Android, will support mobile payments through QR codes and AI features like gesture control, as well as Google's Gemini.

Samsung itself stated that its upcoming glasses will be launched in 2025, with the report specifying that they will be launched in Q3 2025, with an initial production run of 500,000 units.

A new #Google Chromebook is coming - along with a reimagined version of Chrome OS.

Chromebooks are popular, with many options available from various manufacturers. However, Google has been strangely absent from this space, releasing its last Chromebook, the Pixelbook Go, in 2019, after the high-end Pixelbook (pictured) was released in 2017. However, that might change soon.

As revealed by Android Headlines, Google is developing a "Pixel Laptop", codenamed "Snowy". Internally it's being compared to high-end laptops like the MacBook Pro, Dell XPS and the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.

In the meantime, Google is also making major changes to Chrome OS. According to information a source shared with Android Authority, Google is planning to merge it with Android to better compete with the iPad. Steps towards this migration have already been taken on both sides, with Chrome OS starting to use some code from Android and Android getting a Linux terminal app.

#OpenAI starts 12 days of exciting announcements with ChatGPT Pro and o1.

As the first announcement in its "12 Days of OpenAI" series, the company released the full version of o1, its reasoning language model that was launched in preview earlier this year. Notably, it gives more accurate and more reliable answers, as shown by the graph comparing its answers in math, code and science. 4/4 reliability means that the model is considered to solve a question if it gets the answer right in four out of four attempts, not just one. It's also more resistant to jailbreaking. o1 is now available to all ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

Alongside it, the company also released ChatGPT Pro. Besides all of the features of ChatGPT Plus, Pro also enables o1 pro mode. o1 pro mode gives the model even more time to think about the answer, with the user getting notified once the answer is done using an in-app notification. As this requires a lot of processing power, it's also more expensive, at $200 per month. However, the company is awarding 10 grants to researchers in the US.

#OpenAI releases Sora, its long awaited video generation model.

After being announced earlier this year in private beta, Sora is now available to all ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.

It can generate new videos from a text prompt, as well as generate a video from an image or fill in the missing frames of an existing video. It uses the same recaptioning technique used by DALL-E 3 to extend the user's prompt. Resolutions of up to 1080p and lengths of up to 20 seconds are supported.

To make usage of Sora safer, OpenAI used lessons learned from DALL-E 3, as well as feedback from beta testers and red teaming. All generated videos have an invisible C2PA watermark, while videos generated with ChatGPT Plus also have a visible watermark.

Sora is now available at sora.com.
