xAI, #elon Musk's new company, wants to understand the universe. Elon was the co-founder of #OpenAI, and his new company is built to compete with it. The company's employees have strong backgrounds with OpenAI itself, as well as Google DeepMind, Tesla and…
This is Grok, xAI's first AI system.
xAI, if you're unaware, is a company founded by #Elon Musk in July that seeks to understand the universe using artificial intelligence.
Now, the company has unveiled Grok, its first product. Grok is designed to answer questions with a "bit of wit", and accepts some questions that are rejected by other AI systems. Grok has knowledge of the world in real time through X, formerly Twitter.
The AI system is powered by the Grok-1 language model, which was developed over 4 months. Grok-1 is the successor to Grok-0, which achieved results similar to Meta's Llama 2 while using half of its resources. Grok-1 has improved logic and reasoning capabilities, which make it more accurate at math problems than similar models like OpenAI's GPT-3.5, the model powering ChatGPT. Grok-0 was graded on the Hungarian national high school finals in math, which it passed with a B (59%).
Grok will be available to X Premium members first.

Sam Altman, CEO of #OpenAI, will leave the company's board of directors.
OpenAI's board of directors announced that Sam Altman will be replaced by Mira Murati, the company's technical director as the CEO.
The board says that the decision was made because "he was not consistently candid in his communications", and that it is no longer confident in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.
During the time Sam Altman was CEO, OpenAI launched ChatGPT, one of the most popular AI products in the world, as well as the GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 AI systems.

Sam Altman returns to OpenAI's board of directors.
After getting fired over trust issues 4 days ago, Sam is returning, as he announced on Twitter.
In the meantime, he and many other OpenAI employees joined Microsoft, which caused issues within the board of directors. The AI company even joked about this situation in an announcement about ChatGPT voice features becoming available to free users.
