Anglo-Saxon swords were not merely death-dealing weapons, ‘wigena weorðmynd’ (“joy of warriors” (Beowulf 1559) but potent symbols of leadership, social status and ancestral lineage. Oaths of fealty and maybe even marriage vows were sworn on the sword, probably to invoke the power of the sword-god Tiw, who protected the sanctity of oaths.

The 10th Century Exeter Book contains numerous Anglo-Saxon Riddles; two of which clearly have a sword as the solution. In her seminal book on the Anglo-Saxon sword, HR Ellis Davidson discusses the sword-riddles in some detail. In light of previous discoveries; particularly that of the Staffordshire Hoard, the Sword Riddles are well worth re-examining.

The more Bolsonaro stalls the better, if he does not give a speech it'll be the ideal outcome for the possibility of a military takeover with Article 142, the eyes of Brazil and the world are fixed on the podium as the fate of the nation could be decided
David Hume: A Treatise of Human Nature

Book 1: Of the understanding

Part 1: of ideas, their origin, composition, connection, abstraction and etc.

Section 1: Of the origin of our ideas

>> Hume conceives reality based of our impressions and ideas.

>> Impressions are the perceptive inferences made by our senses of the reality surrounding us

>> Ideas are the concepts we form based of our immediate impressions e.g Redness from a red apple. They cannot be separated from our impressions.

>> He further divides the distinction into simple and complex

>>Simple impressions always correspond and equivocate and predate our simple ideas. E.g Our idea of red is equal to our impression and is only formed by our impression. Even when non-perceptive e.g in darkness, our ideas still reflect our impressions and can only be made by constituting impressions. Yet are ideas are not immutable as our impressions always change based of changing perceptions.

>> Hence Hume’s first maxim of Human Nature: “That all our simple ideas in their first appearance are derived from simple impressions, which are correspondent to them, and which they exactly represent”.

>> Complex ideas are the summation of simple ideas: however they do not always relate to our complex impressions e.g New Jerusalem having a pavement of Gold with walls of rubies.

David Hume - A Treatise of Human Nature

Book 1: Of the understanding

Part 1: Of ideas, their origin, composition, connection, abstraction and etc

II. Division of the subject

>> Hume further separates the impressions into two types: sensation and Reflexion

>> Sensation is the foundational impression s perceived by an object of sensation e.g pain, hurt, pleasure and etc. Forming a simple idea

>> when the impression returns to the ‘soul’ and is again experienced it forms a passion, emotion, sentiment. This is a Reflexive Impression

>> In order to understand the mind, the ideas must be reversed to understand the reflective impressions.

Should the paid "Oil" Protesters be forced to personally pay for the damage they've caused to our city and art out of their own pockets/assets?

Their middle/upper class realities would come crashing down as a result of their actions.
