"Flowers of the forest"
,,This tune was written as a lament for Scots that were killed at the Battle of Flodden in 1513. Although the original words are unknown, the melody was recorded in c. 1615-25 in the John Skene of Hay yards Manuscript as "Flowres of the Forrest." Song of the Isles."
Scots:
Weโll here nae mair lilting at our ewe milking,
Women and bairns are heartless and wae,
Sighing and moaning on a ilka green loaning,
The flooers oโ the forest are a wede away.
Deutsch:
Wir werden nie mehr singen bei unserem abendlichen Melken,
Frauen und Kinder sind ohne Herz und Weh.
Seufzen und Wehklagen auf jeder grรผnen Wiese,
die Blumen des Waldes sind verwelkt.
