Let’s have a look at 0% fat products and if/when we should be eating them.

On the surface, it may seem that less fat in your foods = less body fat, but this isn’t the case. Fats help our bodies process vitamins and nutrients, synthesise hormones, store energy and more. Rather than reducing fats in our diet, to reduce our body weight we should be aiming for active calorie deficit.

Now, every 1g of fat contains 9 calories, versus protein and carbs which contain only 4 calories per gram. So it may seem that 0% fat means fewer calories by default - but actually, it doesn’t. All 0% products increase carbs to balance the loss of fats from the product, meaning the calorie contents are often pretty much the same.

That doesn’t mean there are no benefits, however. Carbs and proteins both digest quicker than fat does, meaning reduced fat foods are perfect to eat before/during activities. This will allow your body to extract the nutrients and energy you need quickly, without making you feel sluggish!

The Ancient Greek Temple of Apollo at Corinth.

Originally another temple stood on the site which the Temple of Apollo was later built on. This, older, temple, had been built in the 7th century under the tyrant Kypselos. Although very little is known it, Rhodes believed that it was an example of one of the earliest tiled roofs in Greece. The only other thing known about this temple is that it most likely had a small treasury within it. A story told by Herodotus about Periander mentions that 'if anyone gave [his son] shelter, or even spoke to him, should be fined a certain sum, the money to be dedicated to the service of Apollo'. Clearly, somewhere within Corinth there was a place in which fines paid to Apollo were kept, and the most likely location for this would have been within the temple of the god. At the time of discovery it was one of the oldest temples in Greece, dates to around 540 BC, and was built to replace an earlier temple from the 7th C BC.
Leto and Her Children, Apollo and Artemis 1870; carved 1874

Leto, in classical mythology, a Titan, the daughter of Coeus and Phoebe, and mother of the god Apollo and the goddess Artemis. The chief places of her legend were Delos and Delphi. Leto, pregnant by Zeus, sought a place of refuge to be delivered. She finally reached the barren isle of Delos, which, according to some, was a wandering rock borne about by the waves until it was fixed to the bottom of the sea for the birth of Apollo and Artemis. The wanderings of Leto were ascribed to the jealousy of Zeus’s wife, Hera, who was enraged at Leto’s bearing Zeus’s children. The foundation of Delphi followed immediately upon the birth of Apollo. Leto has been plausibly identified with the Lycian goddess Lada; she was also known as a goddess of fertility and as Kourotrophos (Rearer of Youths).
Leto Giving Birth to Apollo and Artemis on the Island of Delos, Diana Scultori (b. 1535) after Giulio Romano.

Lord Phoebus, when she bore you – the goddess, Lady Leto,
Grabbing with her slender hands hold of a palm tree –
You, most comely of immortals, by a lake shaped like a wheel,
The odor of ambrosia filled all of boundless Delos,
The vast earth laughed, the deep abyss of the gray salt-sea rejoiced.

Temple of Apollo Hylates, Kourion, Cyprus

The temple was built in the Late Classical or Early Hellenistic period on the ruins of the Archaic temple. In the 1st century CE the temple was rebuilt with a different architectural style, the one that stayed today, featuring Nabatean capitals.

Hylates was a god worshipped on the island of Cyprus who was later likened to the Greek God Apollo. His name probably derives from ὑλακτέω „barking“ or ὕλη, forest“, which is why he was nicknamed Apollo of the woods. He was worshipped from the 3rd century BC until the 3rd century CE.
