On this day 17th July 1917 the Russian Imperial Family were executed on the orders of Lenin and Sverdlov (yes, every single time). The initial volley did not kill all the children and they were bayoneted and shot in the head at close range. Their bodies were taken to a nearby forest where they were stripped and, mutilated and groped. In 2000 the family were canonised as Passion Bearers by the Russian Orthodox Church.
Pictured is Tsar Nicholas II in the Uniform of the Royal Scots Greys, to whom he was their Colonel in Chief. He was very fond of their uniform.

Hill Top is a 17th-century house in Near Sawrey, Lake District. The house was once the home of children's author and illustrator Beatrix Potter who left it to the National Trust . It is open to the public and shown as Beatrix Potter herself would have known it.

Reproduction of Athena Parthenos

Construction of the Parthenon began in 447 BC after the orders of the Athenian statesman Pericles. Construction was completed 15 years later. Athena Parthenos, the most renowned image of Athens, stood in the temple with the serpent of Erichthonius at her feet, the head of Medusa on her breast, and a pair of serpents around her waist.  The statue was over 37 feet tall (11.5 meters) and the gold weighed about 1,000 kg (2,400 lbs). The entrance to the main temple was through the east main door.

This replica, modeled after the original statue that once appeared in the former temple on the Athenian Acropolis, took eight years to complete, and is the largest piece of indoor sculpture in the Western World. @GreekLeague
