AOT at work in Oddar Meanchey

Cambodia’s Coordination Group (CLG), today March 29, supported the ASEAN Observation Team (AOT) as they observed the situation at the border near the O’Smach Border Checkpoint, in Samraong town, Oddar Meanchey province.

The mission aimed to ensure that the measures in the Joint Declaration that followed the December 27 ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand were being respected, according to Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence.

This mission marks the handover of leadership from the outgoing ASEAN chair Malaysia to the Philippines. The Philippines will now lead the AOT in Cambodia, she explained.

More than 35,000 Cambodian people remained displaced, many of whom have had their homes destroyed and land occupied by the Thai military, according to the Ministry of Interior.
