Amazing work!โฆ rock walls, tree archways, tree fences.. pushing limits and utilizing traditional ways to create definition, boundaries and character ๐ฟ๐ฅ๐ฆโฆ what can you do on your property to create this on a smaller scale??
๐
๐utilize logs or rocks around planting areas.
๐plant with intention and create windbreak or rows for boundary.
๐gather rocks and make herb spirals, mini walls to plant against and for vines or creepers to provide depth.
๐utilize long branches for entrances and twist, or tie together to start to train them in the direction you want them to go. You can also utilize trellis work and then weave in vines to create the same look.
๐Utilize sticks to frame around a tree ( creating shape of choice - circle โญ๏ธ etc) then weave sticks between surrounding frame work to form a mini fence. Fill with compost, mulch and rocks.
๐ฆso many ways to interact and create texture and dimension to your property๐ฆ

Western Balm of Gilead ๐ณ
Originally referenced in the Bible, Balm of Gilead is said to be from the region of Gilead ( NE of the Sea of Galilee -in modern day Jordan).
Many species of tree have come forward as the suspected medicinal gem. Commiphora gileadensis ( Arabian balsam tree), Pistacia lentiscus and more specifically Pistacia terebinthus ( Turpentine Tree).
๐ณThe Turpentine tree appears to have some of the strongest lineage and referenced in scripture in multiple languages.
In North America and Western Herbalism, we refer to Balm of Gilead as the beautiful resin from the Balsam Poplar buds ( Popilus balsamifera) or Narrowleaf balsam poplar ( Populus angustifolia)or Cottonwood buds (Populus trichocarpa) and this time of year is the best time to gather it!
This resin produces methyl salicylate, and is the highest in the late winter or early spring. This chemical compound is the precursor to acetyl salicylate which is what they use in aspirin.
When we are able to mindfully extract this and utilize it in tinctures, oils, salves and creams, you will find it has extremely powerful medicinal qualities.
Some of these include ;
๐ฟAnalgesic ( relieves pain)
๐ฟHeals to wounds
๐ฟSupportive of arthritis and rheumatism
๐ฟMuscle soreness
๐ฟMucous reliever ~works the lungs
๐ฟCough relief
๐ฟHeadache relief
๐ฟFever support
๐ฟEczema and skin ailments
๐ฟCan use with other medicinal remedies for synergistic effects
In the coming weeks I will post a recipe and directions to make your own oils and salves ๐ฟ๐ณ
โก๏ธForaging mindfulness techniques
๐ณCorrectly identify your trees
๐ณOnly forage from land that you have permission
๐ณDo not over forage and only take what the tree can reasonably gift
๐ณDo not damage the tree
๐ณChoose closed buds
