Cold Exposure
Even though the WEF are promoting cold showers here to promote consuming as little energy as possible while remaining as productive as possible like a well optimised fungible economic unit, cold exposure is based and has many real benefits to cardiovascular health, the functioning of the sympathetic nervous system, dopamine circuits, metabolism and fat burning benefits. Also like saunaing, cold exposure stimulates the release of heat shock proteins (HSPs), which have many associated benefits.
Many of these benefits accrue with repetition, submersion in cold water (<15Β°C) for 2 minutes or more a week, but it is worth highlighting that acutely, with the nose performing a key role in innate immunity, reduced blood supply from vasoconstriction of the blood vessels in the extremities means reduced functioning of the nose and increased chance of infection.
As a side note, what is funny about a lot of this sort of emerging research that causes a buzz is that we just seem to be rediscovering what being a normal human has always been like. "Mindfulness", "bilateral stimulation", "vitamin D" and "cold exposure", etc., perhaps an oversimplification but basically speaking this is just being alone with your thoughts, walking and looking around, getting plenty of sun, and being outside even if it's a bit chilly, like historic humans always have been doing. This sort of thing is given all these technical terminology and packaged as new and exciting but it's actually all very old wisdom, common sense even, that we've lost in modern life.
