भारतातील माहिती आणि तंत्रज्ञान क्षेत्रातील 'पितामह' म्हणून परिचयाचे असलेले फकिर चंद कोहली यांचं वयाच्या ९६ व्या वृद्धापकाळानं निधन झालं. कोहली हे देशातील सर्वात मोठी माहिती आणि तंत्रज्ञान क्षेत्रातील कंपनी टाटा कन्सल्टन्सी सर्व्हिसेसचे (TCS) संस्थापक आणि पहिले मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी होते.
फकिर चंद कोहली यांचा जन्म १९ मार्च १९२४ रोजी पेशावरमध्ये झाला. त्यांनी तिकडूनच आपलं शालेय शिक्षण पूर्ण केलं. त्यानंतर १९४८ मध्ये त्यांनी कॅनडातील क्विन विद्यापीठातून इलेक्ट्रीकल इंजिनिअरिंगमध्ये बीएससी (ऑनर्स) शिक्षण पूर्ण केलं. १९५१ मध्ये ते टाटा इलेक्ट्रीक कंपनीत रूजू झाले आणि सिस्टमच्या संचालनासाठी आवश्यक लोड डिस्पॅचिंग सिस्टम स्थापित करण्यास त्यांनी मदत केली. १९७० मध्ये फकीरचंद कोहली यांच्या खांद्यावर टाटा इलेक्ट्रीक कंपन्यांच्या संचालक पदाची जबाबदारी सोपवण्यात आली.
१९७० मध्ये कंपनीच्या संचालकपदी नियुक्त झाल्यानंतर त्यांच्या खांद्यावर टीसीएसच्या पहिल्या मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी पदाची धुरा सोपवण्यात आली. १९९९ मध्ये वयाच्या ७५ व्या वर्षी ते निवृत्त झाले. निवृत्तीनंतरही कोहली टीसीएसचे सल्लागार म्हणून कार्यरत होते. १९९१ मध्ये टाटा-आयबीएमचा भाग म्हणून आयबीएमला भारतात आणण्याच्या निर्णयामध्ये कोहली सक्रियपणे सहभागी होते. हा भारतातील हार्डवेअर उत्पादनाच्या संयुक्त उपक्रमाचा एक भाग होता. टीसीएसचे पहिले मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी म्हणून त्यांनी देशाला १०० अब्ज डॉलर्सचा माहिती तंत्रज्ञान क्षेत्रातील उद्योग तयार करण्यास मदत केली. भारतातील माहिती तंत्रज्ञान क्षेत्राचे जनक म्हणून ओळखल्या जाणाऱ्या फकिर चंद कोहली यांना २००२ मध्ये पद्मभूषण पुरस्कारानं सन्मानित करण्यात आलं होतं.👆👆
