In the CDC’s new recommendations for protecting your child during an emergency at school, they have created a handy little chart that you can download and print out.
It’s titled “Easy As ABC.”
A - Ask how you would be reunited with your child in an emergency or evacuation.
B - Bring extra medications, special food, or supplies your child would need if you were separated overnight.
“An emergency might require a sudden sleepover. Tell school administrators about any extra supplies your child may need to safely make it through a night away from home.”
C - Complete a backpack card and tuck one in your child’s backpack and your wallet.
Under what circumstances would the school determine that your child would not be able to return home to you?
Where exactly would they be keeping your child overnight?
Does this make you feel any better about sending your child back to school?
