لم يُعترف بآلان تورنغ بشكلٍ رسمي في وطنه خلال حياته ، وحُوكِمَ في عام 1952 بتهمة «ممارسة علاقات مثليّة»، فقَبِلَ العلاج الهرموني بثنائي ايثيل ستيلبوستيرول كعقابٍ بديلٍ عن السّجن

تُوفيَّ تورنغ في عام 1954، وذلك قُبيل 16 يومًا من عيد ميلاده الثاني والأربعين، بسبب تسمم السيانيد ، وتوصلوا الى أن موته كان انتحاراً

قدَّم رئيس الوزراء البريطاني حينها جوردن براون اعتذارًا رسميًا علنيًا لتورنغ نيابة عن الحكومة البريطانية عام 2009
كما منحَت الملكة اليزابيث الثانية آلان عفوًا ملكيًا في عام 2013 بعد وفاته بعشرات السنين.

"Why does the big bang theory say space exploded instead of saying matter-energy exploded into a preexisting space? This is a subtle issue. If it had said matter-energy exploded but space did not, then there would be uncomfortable questions: Where is the point in space that it exploded from, and why that point? Picking one would be arbitrary. And there would be these additional uncomfortable questions: How large is this pre-existing space? When was it created? Experimental observations clearly indicate that some clusters of galaxies must be separating from each other faster than the speed of light, but adding that they do this because they are moving that fast within a pre-existing space would require an ad hoc revision of the theory of relativity to make exceptions to Einstein’s speed limit. So, it is much more “comfortable” to say the big bang is an explosion of space or spacetime, not an explosion of matter-energy within spacetime."
