لإكتشافها الراديوم والبولونيوم، وعملها على الإنحلال الإشعاعي radioactivity، حازت على جائزتي نوبل في الفيزياء والكيمياء. وبذلك، أصبحت أوَّل امرأة تفوز بجائزة نوبل والوحيدة حتَّى الآن التي حصلت على جائزتي نوبل في تخصصين مختلفين.

تقول ماري كوري:

رُبَّما يستطيع كُلّ فرد منَّا أن يلقي بصيصًا من المعرفة، قد يقرُّب الإنسان إلى حلمه بالحقيقة. من خلال هذه الشُّموع الصَّغيرة نُضيء ظلم الطَّريق؛ لنرى أمامنا شيئًا فشيئًا الخطوط العريضة لتلك الخطَّة العظيمة التي تجسِّد الكون. لهذا السَّبب أعتقد أنَّ العلم يتمتَّع بجمالٍ عظيمٍ.

Marie Curie was a Polish-born French physicist, famous for her work on radioactivity and twice a winner of the Nobel Prize - the first female winner and the first person to win two. Despite being faced with brutal sexism that accompanied her fame as a female scientist Marie Curie is remembered for her discovery of radium and polonium, and her huge contribution to finding treatments for cancer.
