❗US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on 1 July that Israel has not reduced the intensity of its fighting in Gaza:
○ “We’ve heard the Israelis talk about a significant downshift in their operations in Gaza. It remains to be seen,” Blinken said at an event in Washington DC.
○ Blinken’s statements follow Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi claiming that the military has finished the bulk of its assault on Gaza and will transition to a lower intensity phase in the fighting.
○ Blinken also said that he believes an all-out war on Israel’s northern border may still be possible, “Israel doesn’t want a war, although they may well be prepared to engage in one if necessary from their perspective to protect their interests, but they don’t want one. I don’t believe Hezballah actually wants a war…. And I don’t believe that Iran wants a war,” Blinken said.
○ "So, on the one hand, no one actually wants a war; on the other hand, you have forces – momentum that may be leading in that direction.”

❗Yedioth Ahronoth, Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar sent a letter to Israeli officials –including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir – warning that Israel is facing an incarceration crisis:
○ There are currently 21,000 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons, exceeding the 14,500 prisoner capacity by nearly 50%, Bar wrote.
○ He adds that this poses a threat to Israel’s security apparatus, creating what he describes as a "time bomb" in Israeli prisons, with fears of prison revolts.
○The emergency legislation passed by the Israeli government allows for the overcrowding of prisons "almost without limits.”
○ Bar also warned that the continued torture of Palestinian detainees and denial of their rights under international law could damage Israel’s reputation and could expose Israeli officials to prosecution.

❗Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he will not agree to a truce in Gaza:
○ Anonymous sources spoke to the New York Times today and said that Israel would be ready to end the war before achieving all its goals. I do not know who these unnamed parties are.
○ That will not happen, and we will not end the war until we achieve all its goals, including eliminating Hamas and releasing all our hostages.
○ The political level set these goals for the army, and the army has all the tools to achieve them.
