Ho combattuto, ed è tanto.

Ritenni di poter vincere ma natura sorte, studio e sforzi repressero.

Ma già è qualcosa essere sceso in lotta, poiché vedo che in mano al fato è la vittoria.

Fu in me quanto era possibile e che nessun venturo secolo potrà negarmi ciò che di proprio un vincitore poteva dare: non aver avuto timore della morte, non essersi sottomesso, fermo il viso, a nessuno che mi fosse simile.

Aver preferito morte coraggiosa a vita pusillanime.
