1. The Core Development: Taiwan Overtakes India

👉 The global AI boom is reshaping the pecking order of world stock markets. According to the article, Taiwan has overtaken India to become the world’s fifth-largest stock market.

👉 Taiwan’s market capitalisation has surged nearly 50% year-to-date to around $5 trillion, while India’s market capitalisation has declined around 7% year-to-date to nearly $4.92 trillion.

👉 This pushed India to the sixth position globally.

👉 Market capitalisation, or m-cap, means the total market value of all listed shares of a company or a stock market, calculated as share price multiplied by the number of outstanding shares.

2. Why Are Taiwan and South Korea Rising So Fast?

👉 The biggest reason is the global Artificial Intelligence boom. AI growth requires advanced semiconductor chips, AI servers, memory chips, data centres and high-performance computing infrastructure.

Taiwan and South Korea are major players in this ecosystem.

👉 Taiwan is home to TSMC, the world’s largest advanced chip manufacturer. South Korea has companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which are major producers of memory chips used in AI systems.

👉 As demand for AI infrastructure rises, investors are aggressively buying semiconductor and AI-linked stocks in these countries.

3. Why Is India Lagging in This Rally?

👉 India remains a strong long-term growth story, but it currently does not have the same large-scale representation in global AI hardware and semiconductor supply chains.

👉 India’s market is more driven by sectors like banking, financial services, consumption, infrastructure and traditional IT services.

👉 So, while India benefits from domestic growth, Taiwan and South Korea are benefiting more directly from the global AI-chip boom.

In simple words, India is not weak; it is just not at the centre of the current AI hardware rally.

4. Foreign Investors Are Shifting Money

👉 The article says foreign investors have moved capital away from India towards markets like Taiwan and South Korea to participate in the AI rally.

👉 Since April 2025, foreign investors have reportedly pulled out more than $20 billion from Indian equities.

👉 This shows how global capital flows can quickly shift toward countries and sectors that are seen as direct beneficiaries of a major technology trend.

5. The Risk: AI Trade May Become Too Crowded

👉 Experts also warn that the AI trade is becoming crowded and vulnerable to sharp corrections. Markets like Taiwan and South Korea are heavily dependent on a few large companies. For example, TSMC alone accounts for a very large share of Taiwan’s market capitalisation.

👉 This creates concentration risk. It means that a market or economy depends too heavily on a few companies or sectors, so any shock to them can create a large impact.

👉 If AI optimism continues, these markets may keep benefiting. But if expectations weaken, the correction can also be sharp.

Take a look at the data from the RBI, the disposal of soiled ₹500 notes alone jumped from 6.33 billion pieces in FY24 to a staggering 8.98 billion pieces in FY25.

But do you actually know how the RBI categorizes these banknotes under the RBI (Note Refund) Rules?

1. Soiled Notes (Ordinary Wear & Tear)

👉 What it means: A soiled note is simply a regular banknote that has grown dirty, limp, or stained through everyday handling. It is structurally intact, remains in one whole piece (or two matching pieces taped together), and all its security features and numbers are clearly visible.

👉 Example: You accidentally left a ₹500 note in your jeans pocket, and it went through the washing machine. It comes out soggy, limp, and faded, but it is still in one whole piece (or cleanly torn into just two pieces that you taped back together).

👉 Bank Rule: You get 100% of your money back at any bank.

2. Mutilated Notes (Torn or Missing Pieces)

👉 What it means: A note that is torn into two or more pieces, or has missing parts.

👉 Example: Your dog chewed up a ₹200 note. You managed to rescue the biggest piece, but the puppy swallowed the rest of the corner.

👉 Bank Rule: The bank measures how much of the note is left. For big notes like ₹500, if you have almost the whole note left (more than 80%), you get full value. If you only have half the note left, you get half your money back. If it's just a tiny scrap, you get nothing.

👉 If you tape two pieces of the same note together with nothing missing, it is simply a Soiled note and you get full value. However, if you only have one piece and are missing the other part of the note, it automatically becomes a Mutilated note.

3. Imperfect Notes (Disfigured or Chemically Damaged)

👉 What it means: An imperfect note is a banknote that has been physically or chemically altered, making its essential features unreadable or distorted. It is not necessarily torn, but its shape, size, or appearance has been severely compromised.

👉 Example: A bottle of strong floor cleaner or oil spills inside your bag, soaking a ₹100 note. The paper shrinks to half its size, or the ink gets completely blurred out so you can't read the numbers anymore.

👉 Bank Rule: If the bank can still prove it's a real note, they will replace it. If it's too damaged to recognize, they might reject it.

4. When does a note become completely worthless?

Banks will give you zero money if:

👉 You bring in a tiny scrap that is less than half the size of the original note.
👉 Someone has written political slogans or messages all over the note.
