Dear Students,
We have all heard of health insurance, life insurance, vehicle insurance and travel insurance.
But what exactly is parametric insurance?
This article is important because extreme heat, erratic rainfall and climate risks are now creating demand for new types of insurance products.
So today, do not just read this as a weather-related news item. Read it as a concept linked with climate risk, insurance innovation and financial protection.
Read todayโs Quick Decode below.

This article is important because extreme heat, erratic rainfall and climate risks are now creating demand for new types of insurance products.
So today, do not just read this as a weather-related news item. Read it as a concept linked with climate risk, insurance innovation and financial protection.
Read todayโs Quick Decode below.
๐จโโ Chapterss Quick Decode | Episode 14
1. The Core Development: Extreme Heat Is Creating Demand for Parametric Insurance
๐ Indiaโs rising temperatures and changing climate patterns are increasing demand for parametric insurance.
๐ The article says that insurers are seeing higher demand for products covering heatwaves, excessive rainfall, floods, earthquakes and other weather-related events.
๐ This is important because climate risk is now becoming a financial risk for farmers, daily wage workers, construction workers, small businesses and urban workers.
2. What Is Parametric Insurance?
๐ Parametric insurance is an insurance product where payout is linked to a pre-decided measurable trigger, not detailed assessment of actual loss.
๐ For example, if a policy says payment will be made when temperature crosses 42ยฐC or 44ยฐC in a particular location, then the claim can be triggered once that condition is met.
๐ Similarly, a rainfall-based policy may automatically provide payout if rainfall in a district falls below a fixed level during the crop season.
๐ So, unlike traditional insurance, the insurance company does not first assess every individualโs exact financial loss. The payout happens based on the agreed parameter.
In simple words:
๐ Suppose you have a normal health insurance policy. If you are hospitalised, you first submit hospital bills and documents. The insurer then checks the actual expenses before settling the claim.
That is traditional insurance.
๐ But imagine a policy that promises an automatic payout if the temperature in your city crosses 45ยฐC for three consecutive days. In that case, payment is linked to the trigger itself, not detailed proof of personal loss.
So:
Traditional insurance: Show actual loss โ assessment โ claim settlement
Parametric insurance: Trigger is breached โ payout process starts
3. What Does the Data Say?
๐ The article says that Bajaj General Insurance sold around 85,000 parametric policies in April to early May, compared with around 90,000 policies during the entire FY26. Go Digit also covered more than 30,000 individuals between April and mid-May this calendar year, compared with 10,000 in FY26.
๐ This clearly shows that climate-linked insurance products are finding more takers.
4. Why Is This Useful?
๐ Parametric insurance is useful because it can provide faster financial relief. For a daily wage worker, farmer or construction worker, extreme heat or excess rainfall can directly affect income. If the payout is linked to a clear trigger, the claim process can become quicker and less complicated.
๐ This is why such products are being explored for climate-vulnerable groups.
๐ It is not only an insurance innovation. It is also a tool for protecting livelihoods in a climate-risk economy.
Chapterss Takeaway:
Parametric insurance pays when a pre-defined measurable trigger is breached. As extreme heat and erratic rainfall rise, such products can become important for faster financial protection of farmers, workers and climate-vulnerable households.

Message of the Day
Topic: A Good Finish Matters
Dear Future Officers,
You study day in and day out for your regulatory body exams. You put in months of effort, discipline, sacrifice, and consistency.
But when the exam comes closer, many students lose control of the ending phase.
Some start overthinking.
Some start picking up too many new sources.
Some revise randomly.
Some panic because everything starts looking important.
But remember one thing: the final phase is not about doing everything. It is about doing the right things calmly.
At this stage, staying grounded is very important.
Do not overdo it now. Do not suddenly run behind every new source. Do not let panic decide your strategy.
Keep things simple. Revise what you have already studied. Strengthen your notes. Revise important facts, reports, schemes, concepts, and PYQs. Solve questions, but do not destroy your confidence by chasing unlimited material.
A good finish does not mean studying 18 hours in panic.
A good finish means staying composed, staying grounded, revising smartly, and entering the exam hall with clarity.
At this stage, control is more important than chaos.
Keep it simple. Keep revising. Keep believing.
Your finish matters.

๐จโโ Chapterss Quick Decode | Episode 15
1. The Core Development: Credit Card Spending Rose in April
๐ Credit card spending in India rose 7.06% year-on-year to โน1.97 trillion in April 2026, compared to โน1.84 trillion in April 2025.
๐ This means consumers continued to spend actively through credit cards, even though spending was lower than March 2026, when transactions had surged to โน2.19 trillion due to fiscal year-end activity.
๐ So, the core message is simple: credit card usage remains strong, but monthly movement can vary depending on seasonal and year-end spending patterns.
2. Why Is This Called Plastic Money?
๐ Credit cards are often called plastic money because they allow people to make payments without using physical cash. Instead of paying immediately in cash, the cardholder spends now and repays later to the bank or card issuer.
๐ This makes credit cards different from debit cards. In a debit card, money is deducted from the customerโs bank account immediately. In a credit card, the issuer provides short-term credit to the customer.
3. What Does the Data Say?
๐ According to RBI data, credit card spending in April 2026 stood at โน1.97 trillion. The split is also important:
E-commerce transactions grew 8.76% year-on-year to โน73,848 crore.
Point-of-sale transactions grew 6.05% year-on-year to โน1.23 trillion.
๐ This shows that credit card usage is rising both online and offline.
5. Why Should Students Care?
๐ Credit card spending is not just a banking data point. It tells us about consumer spending behaviour, retail credit growth, digital payment adoption and the changing nature of household consumption.
๐ For banks, credit cards are also an important business segment because they generate income through interest, fees, merchant discount rates and other charges. But if users overspend or fail to repay on time, credit card dues can become a source of household financial stress.
Chapterss Takeaway:
๐ In countries like the United States, credit cards are deeply embedded in everyday consumption and household spending. This is why the US is often seen as a highly credit-card-driven economy. India is still far more UPI-led, but the rise in credit card spending shows that plastic money is becoming an important part of Indiaโs urban consumption and retail credit story.

Is something wrong with Indian Stock Markets?
Read todayโs Quick Decode below.
๐จโโ Chapterss Quick Decode | Episode 16
Topic: Indiaโs Market Cap Slips Amid AI Frenzy
1. The Core Development: Taiwan Overtakes India
๐ The global AI boom is reshaping the pecking order of world stock markets. According to the article, Taiwan has overtaken India to become the worldโs fifth-largest stock market.
๐ Taiwanโs market capitalisation has surged nearly 50% year-to-date to around $5 trillion, while Indiaโs market capitalisation has declined around 7% year-to-date to nearly $4.92 trillion.
๐ This pushed India to the sixth position globally.
๐ Market capitalisation, or m-cap, means the total market value of all listed shares of a company or a stock market, calculated as share price multiplied by the number of outstanding shares.
2. Why Are Taiwan and South Korea Rising So Fast?
๐ The biggest reason is the global Artificial Intelligence boom. AI growth requires advanced semiconductor chips, AI servers, memory chips, data centres and high-performance computing infrastructure.
Taiwan and South Korea are major players in this ecosystem.
๐ Taiwan is home to TSMC, the worldโs largest advanced chip manufacturer. South Korea has companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which are major producers of memory chips used in AI systems.
๐ As demand for AI infrastructure rises, investors are aggressively buying semiconductor and AI-linked stocks in these countries.
3. Why Is India Lagging in This Rally?
๐ India remains a strong long-term growth story, but it currently does not have the same large-scale representation in global AI hardware and semiconductor supply chains.
๐ Indiaโs market is more driven by sectors like banking, financial services, consumption, infrastructure and traditional IT services.
๐ So, while India benefits from domestic growth, Taiwan and South Korea are benefiting more directly from the global AI-chip boom.
In simple words, India is not weak; it is just not at the centre of the current AI hardware rally.
4. Foreign Investors Are Shifting Money
๐ The article says foreign investors have moved capital away from India towards markets like Taiwan and South Korea to participate in the AI rally.
๐ Since April 2025, foreign investors have reportedly pulled out more than $20 billion from Indian equities.
๐ This shows how global capital flows can quickly shift toward countries and sectors that are seen as direct beneficiaries of a major technology trend.
5. The Risk: AI Trade May Become Too Crowded
๐ Experts also warn that the AI trade is becoming crowded and vulnerable to sharp corrections. Markets like Taiwan and South Korea are heavily dependent on a few large companies. For example, TSMC alone accounts for a very large share of Taiwanโs market capitalisation.
๐ This creates concentration risk. It means that a market or economy depends too heavily on a few companies or sectors, so any shock to them can create a large impact.
๐ If AI optimism continues, these markets may keep benefiting. But if expectations weaken, the correction can also be sharp.
Chapterss Takeaway:
The AI revolution is not only changing technology; it is also reshaping global stock market leadership. Countries strong in semiconductors and AI infrastructure are attracting massive investor money, showing that technological dominance can quickly translate into market dominance.
