We will be starting the NABARD Grade A Day-wise Study Plan from 25th May. Under this plan, you will receive daily study targets, along with weekly objective and descriptive tests to keep your preparation structured and consistent.

2. Management Chapter 2 Class Update
Today’s Management class for Chapter 2, scheduled at 8 PM, has been postponed. It will now be released On Monday at 12 noon.

The reason is that the recorded video quality is not clear, and we do not want to upload a compromised version. We will try to get the raw file again and upload the class tomorrow.

This snippet is not just about inflation rising or falling.

It shows something more important: why wholesale inflation and retail inflation can move in completely different directions at the same time.

1. The Core Development: WPI Has Jumped, CPI Is Still Calm
In April 2026, India’s WPI-based inflation increased sharply to 8.3%, while CPI-based retail inflation remained relatively steady at 3.5%. This means inflation pressure is clearly visible at the wholesale level, but the same intensity is not yet visible at the consumer level.

So, the real issue is not just “inflation has increased.” The real issue is that wholesale inflation and retail inflation are moving on different paths.

2. Why Are WPI and CPI Behaving Differently?
WPI and CPI measure different price baskets.

WPI is more sensitive to wholesale-level prices of commodities, manufactured products, metals and fuel. CPI, on the other hand, measures the prices paid by final consumers and also includes services. That is why global commodity or fuel shocks can push WPI upward quickly, while CPI may remain comparatively stable for some time.

3. The Pass-Through Angle: Pressure May Not Have Fully Reached Consumers
When crude oil, fuel or other commodity prices rise, the first impact is usually felt by producers, wholesalers and businesses through higher input costs. But these higher costs do not always reach final consumers immediately.

Businesses may absorb some cost for a while, contracts may delay price revision, or retail prices may adjust with a lag.

So, WPI may rise first because producers and wholesalers are facing the heat, while CPI may still look calm because the full burden has not yet been passed on to consumers.

4. What Should Students Learn From This?

For exams, never read inflation as one single number. Whenever you see inflation data, ask:

👉 Which index is being discussed: WPI or CPI?
👉 Which items are driving the movement: fuel, metals, food, manufactured goods or services?
👉 Is the pressure coming from domestic demand or global commodity shocks?
👉 Has the pressure reached consumers, or is it still at the input/wholesale stage?

This is how inflation news becomes exam-relevant.
