O Palácio Biester, em Sintra, foi escolhido por Roman Polanski como cenário para o filme The Ninth Gate.

Pela sua beleza notória e mística singular, volta agora a ser escolhido - não por Hollywood mas por este que vos escreve. 😊

Doze participantes sentam-se à mesa para explorar o invisível, a memória e a percepção. Durante aproximadamente 70 minutos, abre-se o espaço à presença e à curiosidade.

A primeira experiência do The Biester Sessions terá lugar dia 31 de Maio, com duas sessões (19.00h e 21.00h). Há facilidade de estacionamento.

Como se trata de um projecto a ser desenvolvido ao longo tempo, nestas primeiras sessões gostaria de ter pessoas que já conhecem o meu trabalho. Daí a criação deste canal.

Biester Palace, in Sintra, was chosen by Roman Polanski as a filming location for The Ninth Gate.

Due to its remarkable and singular mystical beauty, it is once again being chosen – not by Hollywood, but by yours truly. 😊

Twelve participants will sit at the table to explore the invisible, memory and perception. For approximately 70 minutes, we'll open space to presence and curiosity. 

The first experience of The Biester Sessions will take place on the 31st of May, with two sessions (7:00pm and 9:00pm). We'll have easy parking.

As this is a project to be developed over time, I would like to start these initial sessions with people already familiar with my work. Hence the creation of this channel.

É esta a sala onde serão recebidos os participantes do The Biester Sessions. A decoração em madeira a cargo de um outro Leandro (de Souza Braga), bem como a lareira adornada pelos azulejos de Bordallo Pinheiro, são elementos centrais nesta divisão do palácio.

Lareira. O lugar do fogo. É fácil, hoje, esquecermo-nos da sua centralidade na vida do lar. Os romanos chamavam a este fogo doméstico de focus. Grandes têm sido os desafios para mantermos este fogo aceso.

Tal era a importância deste lume para a luminosidade e vitalidade da casa, que os gregos consideravam-no a kardia (coração) da habitação. Interessante estas aproximações na palavra inglesa hearth. É lareira, coração e terra num só.

É aqui que nos encontraremos dia 31 de Maio para a apresentação deste novo projecto. Até lá! 😊

This is the room where the participants of The Biester Sessions will be welcomed. The wooden decor, curated by another Leandro (de Souza Braga), along with the fireplace adorned with Bordallo Pinheiro tiles, are central features of this wing of the palace.

The fireplace. The place of fire. It’s easy, nowadays, to forget its former centrality in the life of the home. The Romans called this domestic fire focus. Much effort has gone into keeping this fire alive in modern times.

Such was the importance of the fireplace for the light and vitality of the household that the Greeks saw it as the kardia—the heart—of the home. How curious the layers held within the English word hearth. It carries fire, heart and earth all at once.

This is where we’ll gather on the 31st of May to present this new project. Until then! 😊
