Some users wanted a way to move their chat history from WhatsApp over to Telegram. Two weeks ago I realized this should be theoretically possible, and yesterday we made this feature available on both iOS and Android, together with many other improvements. It also supports migrating chats from KakaoTalk and Line – two other Pre-Telegram apps.
Nothing like this has ever been made possible by a major app, and our team had to implement some serious magic to make it work. We are happy with the result: moving messages to Telegram allows people to save disk space and stop worrying about third-party backups or changing devices.
The feature currently imports messages to the end of the target Telegram conversation, but retains the original timestamps of messages. Some folks have been asking whether we can mix the existing messages in a Telegram chat with the imported messages in one unified timeline. This should be possible if the target chat (where you import messages to) has fewer than 100 messages, so we’ve started to work on that.
We’ll also provide free APIs for third-party developers who want to create tools that will allow users to import messages to Telegram from anywhere. Hopefully, such tools will help add support for more apps than this first wave of three – and also allow users to import multiple chats or their entire inbox at once.
The original meaning of the paper plane on the Telegram logo means “freedom”. For us, freedom of choice and data portability are paramount. People should be in complete control over their own data – and their own lives.

• Create voice chats from the ⋮ menu in the profile of any group where you are an admin.
• Group video calls are supported natively on all devices, including tablets and laptops.
Animated Backgrounds
• Meet animated backgrounds for chats – first time in a messaging app! These multi-color gradient backgrounds are generated algorithmically and move beautifully every time you send a message.
• Create your own backgrounds in Chat Settings by selecting unique combinations of colors and applying any of the dozens of patterns.
• Share your animated backgrounds with friends and family to upgrade them to a new level of messaging experience.
• Choose between dozens of new gorgeous animated backgrounds in Chat Settings > Change Chat Background.
Message Sending Animations
• Send messages with improved animations – stickers and animated emoji fly into the chat from the sticker panel.
2-Step Verification Reminders
• You will now receive a notification from Telegram each time your 2-Step Verification settings are changed.

What's new?
•When focused on the Open File button or Download File button the name and size of the file will be spoken, and when focused on the Play button on an audio file you will hear its name and duration.
•Added a combination to move focus to the message input field. If the focus is already in this field, then when you click, the focus will return to the last element that was in focus.
•The chat activity tracking feature is now enabled by double-tapping ALT + T. You can simply enable it, or enable it temporarily, until the next time you close the app.
•Also now added the ability to choose the type of notification for recording voice messages. This is done by double-pressing the control+d combination. There you can choose between an audio alert, a text alert, and you can also return the standard behavior when recording voice messages.
